We’re looking for a Manager, Marketing Automation and passionate sports fan to join the Sportsnet business at Rogers Sports & Media. In this role you will be responsible for helping to grow our DTC subscription offerings (SN NOW and NHL LIVE) as well as our free digital media product experiences (Sportsnet.ca and SN App). This is a unique opportunity to tackle interesting challenges at the intersection of Sports, Media, and Technology; working on a portfolio of digital products that are changing the way Canadians consume live sports content.
As the Manager Marketing Automation, the successful candidate will develop, evolve and manage the email marketing platform for our DTC business. They will own the platform end-to-end and be ultimately responsible for ensuring the right customer gets the right email communication at the right time, according to plan. They will create, source, and manage training and enablement materials and develop processes necessary to ensure all teams using email to communicate with their audience or customers are able to drive the greatest possible impact on their business areas.
They are equal parts technologist, data scientist, operations expert, and marketing strategist; able to get into the details and code emails or query audience segments as well as create process and support across the company for email marketing programs. They are data-driven and can translate analysis and KPI’s into buy-in from cross-functional stakeholders and drive ongoing operational improvements.
What you will do…
- You are the Salesforce Marketing Cloud expert at Sportsnet / Rogers Sports & Media
- You bring email marketing & lifecycle communications thought leadership to our team; with a strong understanding of best-in-class email marketing capabilities and a desire / ability to create a best-in-class program at Sportsnet and Rogers Sports & Media
- Partner with Content teams, Marketing teams, and DTC Growth teams to support technical and operational execution of the email marketing strategy with clear KPI and revenue objectives measured and reported
- Form strong relationships cross-functionally (content, product, development, creative, marketing, DTC, data) to establish best practice, training, enablement, and strong execution for email campaigns
- Responsible for segmentation and targeting capabilities (SQL) + utilizing first party customer data (DTC) to personalize the email experience
- Build and manage email automation and triggered journeys based on customer, content, strategic, and payment related triggers
- Establish and enforce the email campaign deployment cadence rules and restrictions across the teams, including strict regulatory adherence and management of the preference centre (CASL)
- Ongoing improvement of all KPIs: open rate, deliverability, click rate, opt-out rate, conversion rate, revenue, as well as specific business goals around individual campaigns
- Weekly, monthly, long-term reporting, and provide strategic recommendations and tests based on performance
- Design and implementation of technical capabilities for acquiring email lists / lead generation
- Approval and QA of sends / automations before they are scheduled
- Potential over time to manage data, process, and automation for in-app marketing PUSH Notifications and SMS
What you will bring…
- A deep passion for sports and the impact they have on Canadians
- Proven operational experience developing, launching, and managing a robust email marketing or marketing automation discipline for digital products / businesses, preferably with a DTC / B2C focus,
- Experience with both the process / workflows and the technical capabilities necessary to be successful in marketing automation
- Demonstrated track record on complex digital product launches and large marketing campaigns, integrating email and marketing automation into those launches, with proven commercial success and measurable KPI’s
- Strong organizational, analytical, and management skills, with the ability to balance multiple projects and products simultaneously, successfully, and efficiently
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to get across complex information at all levels of the organization, internally and externally
- Ability to influence without authority through effective communication, negotiation, and collaboration
- A strong understanding of business objectives, industry dynamics, and competitor products
- An innate instinct for the customer experience and journey
- Able to navigate both creative and technical conversations
- Understands process / workflows for all three of marketing, content creation, and software development functional areas
- A commitment and passion to the details
Technical skills:
- Extensive experience with Salesforce Marketing Cloud, including journey builder, audience builder, automation studio, etc…
- Code CSS / HTML as it applies to responsive email design with dynamic content
- Segmentation and targeting, able to work with SQL and relational databases
- Photoshop
- Email deliverability best practices
- A/B testing and conversion optimization
- Has crafted intricate customer journeys/drip campaigns
Nice to Have:
- PUSH / SMS experience
- Experience working with / integrating with Customer Data Platforms (CDP)
- Previously developed marketing automation infrastructure from the ground up (blank slate)
- Experience building email programs across a multiple-product business with competing priorities and objectives
- Direct experience working in Digital Media or Sports
