The Opportunity
As a natural storyteller with strong leadership, writing and planning skills, and excellent judgment, the Manager, External Communications will play a key role in the Marketing and Communications Department’s efforts to engage and influence external stakeholders through meaningful, timely and relevant communications.
Who you’ll work with
You will work across the entire Marketing & Communications team as well as other key departments related to financial reporting (finance, legal, risk, investments, etc.).
What you’ll do
Play a leading role in the articulation of Ontario Teachers’ advancements against its’ strategic priorities via shaping and executing our corporate reporting strategy, including concept development, writing and project management of financial reporting events and materials including the Annual Report and Annual General Meeting
Act as a key partner to the Sustainable Investing team to shape and tell our approach to embedding leading ESG, corporate governance and broader sustainability practices to deliver value
Play an active role in securing and helping executives prepare for media engagements related to mid-year and annual financial reporting
Research, plan and write differentiated communications products to help support and evolve Ontario Teachers’ global brand, including investment marketing materials, press releases, website and social media content
Develop and implement cross-department communications project plans, including those in support of ongoing efforts to integrate teams and activities across the Marketing and Communications division
Lead the development of the external communication strategy, content development, and advising of stakeholders on matters related to Labour Relations, including but not limited to topics such as collective bargaining and contingency planning
Initiate regular interaction and collaboration with peers (internal and external) to stay up to date on current trends in financial reporting and investment industry communications, including potential opportunities for collaboration
Partner with member communications to share pertinent information on issues of interest to members, and to answer calls, e-mails and letters from active teachers and pensioners, dealing with sensitive issues with diplomacy
Develop content to mitigate potential reputational matters, including executive briefings
What you’ll need
8-10 years (or more) of related experience
Excellent working knowledge of issues in the investment industry or other highly regulated financial field, including in the evolving area of integrated reporting
Undergraduate degree in Journalism or Communications
Excellent language skills, including writing, editing and proofreading
Strong organizational and project management skills
A high level of creativity and curiosity
High level of competency with Microsoft programs including Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Teams
Good initiative, empathy, judgment and tact
Ability to work to deadlines with a large degree of independence
Understanding of development and reporting on ESG related priorities an asset
Familiarity with editing in Adobe Reader and some knowledge of InDesign are assets
Bilingualism (English/French) is an asset
