And, we value your commitment to treat every person on our team with respect, helping us to operate safely, protect the environment and make a positive contribution to our local communities.ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITYBased at the Detour Lake Mine site, we currently have an exciting opportunity for a Light Vehicle Mechanic to join our Mobile Maintenance team reporting to the Mine Maintenance Supervisor.Detour Lake is the largest gold producing mine in Canada with the largest gold reserves and substantial growth potential. The open pit mine is located in northeastern Ontario, approximately 300 kilometres northeast of Timmins and 185 kilometres by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt.The mine is situated in the area of the historic Detour Lake open pit/underground mine operated by Placer Dome which produced 1.8 million ounces of gold from 1983 to 1999. The Detour Lake operation has a mine life of approximately 22 years with an average gold production of 659,000 ounces per year.The Light Vehicle Mechanic will be responsible for ensuring optimal equipment availability by servicing and repairing all light duty equipment in accordance with company standards and design specifications.RESPONSIBILITIESYour responsibilities will include:

  • Maintain all light duty vehicles and equipment in a reliable and safe operating condition
  • Conduct equipment testing, reporting deficiencies, timely inspections, preventative maintenance service and quality repair of equipment in accordance with work plans and maintenance schedules
  • Liaise with maintenance planning group to maintain inventory of parts leading to optimal equipment availability
  • Develop a strong working relationship with the operations group
  • Prepare electronic service reports and documentation in an accurate and timely manner
  • Maintain a safe, clean and efficient work area
  • Analyze maintenance procedures and make recommendations to improve effectiveness
  • Ensure that safety issues are reported to the supervisor and promptly remedied
  • Promote a positive health, safety and environment culture and the Internal Responsibility System

QUALIFICATIONSOur ideal candidate has:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED
  • Ontario Provincial/ Inter-Provincial (Red Seal) Automotive Service Technician (310S) Certificate or Ontario Provincial/ Inter-Provincial (Red Seal) Truck and Coach Technician (310T) Certificate is considered an asset
  • Minimum five years’ experience working on mobile equipment in a mining setting
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe working practices
  • Focused and self-motivated with strong organizational and time management skills
  • Experience working at a remote work site is an asset

Day in the lifeWhat does a role as a Summer Student with Miller Maintenance look like? It is a role for someone who enjoys working outdoors in nature, likes to engage in physical activity and looks forward to the chance for every day to be a little different than the day before! Miller Maintenance provides highway maintenance for the Ministry of Transportation on provincial highways. What does this mean? We are responsible for everything along the highway from the fence line in and keeping the motoring public safe! This is a very crucial role because if we don’t do what we do then traffic can’t go anywhere!
