Day in the LifeAs a Highway Maintenance Foreperson, you will ensure that all performance requirements on the Maintenance Contract (MDMC) are met. This includes optimizing allocation of resources (people and equipment) across all operations to enhance efficiency and utilization as well as control costs; developing and maintaining favourable relationships with customer (MTO) reps as you participate in quoting, bids, and tenders; providing day to day coaching and allocating tasks to labourers and operators; assisting the Area Supervisor to ensure the team has the resources and training required to fulfill the contract.Responsibilities:

  • Promote, lead, and execute a Safety-First culture for all employees, sub-contractors, and consultants in compliance with Miller’s Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) polices and ensure contractual Health, Safety and Environmental obligations for the staff and public are met
  • Overall supervision of the operations within the contract, including leading safety meetings and inspections
  • Monitor costs and understand cost allocation across different performance requirements of the contract and identify ways to control costs
  • Thoroughly understand the performance requirements of the contract and all deliverables, educating and supporting the Lead Hand and crews to plan and prioritize the work
  • Build and maintain a strong functional team through instruction, training, coaching and team building
  • Ensure work completed meets quality standards, oversee daily production records and report on work in progress, ensure preparation and submittal of required reports, documentation and logs are completed
  • Collaborate with Area Supervisor and Mechanics to track onsite equipment, coordinate repairs and maintenance, and establish equipment needs
  • Identify and recommend operational efficiencies to enhance the financial performance of the contract
  • Assist with investigations and respond to inquiries from the public, external agencies, and liaise with the Area Supervisor to resolve problems
  • Participate in the winter works operations where needed, aid the MTO with emergency response measures, implementing an emergency plan in situations such as spills, accidents, inclement weather, etc.
