Description:
Alberta Guide Dogs is seeking a dynamic and dedicated Special Education Teacher to work with individuals who are blind or visually impaired. The ideal candidate will have experience in special education, teaching individuals with varying abilities, and a passion for working with people with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
– Develop and implement individualized educational programs and strategies for students with visual impairments
– Collaborate with other professionals, parents, and caregivers to support the educational needs of students
– Provide instruction in specialized areas such as orientation and mobility, daily living skills, and job readiness
– Utilize a variety of teaching methods and materials to engage and support students with visual impairments
– Monitor student progress, assess learning outcomes, and adjust instruction as needed
– Maintain accurate records of student progress and participation
– Attend and participate in IEP meetings, parent conferences, and staff meetings
– Stay current on best practices in special education and visual impairment education
Requirements:
– Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or related field
– Valid teaching certification in the province of Alberta
– Experience working with individuals with visual impairments preferred
– Knowledge of adaptive teaching techniques and assistive technology for individuals with disabilities
– Strong communication and interpersonal skills
– Ability to work effectively as part of a team
– Flexibility, creativity, and a commitment to supporting the diverse needs of students with disabilities
