The British Columbia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BC SPCA) is seeking a Director of Finance to join their team in Vancouver, BC. This permanent, full-time position offers a salary of $101,700 per year.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial & Accounting (55%):

    • Ensure timely and accurate financial reporting and compliance deliverables.
    • Drive key automation projects, including process automation and KPI dashboarding using existing and new tools.
    • Review or prepare analysis and memorandums on technical accounting and indirect tax matters.
    • Lead the Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) team in the annual budgeting and quarterly forecasting processes and report development.
    • Collaborate with the Senior Director, Finance, and CFO to ensure annual core budget assumptions align with five-year financial planning scenarios.
    • Develop and monitor the annual budget for the finance department.
    • Actively contribute to the Finance Department Risk Register, including identification of key financial risks and ongoing mitigation efforts.
    • Act as the key liaison for complex issues on the annual external audit and oversee the interim and year-end audit preparation.
    • Understand, monitor, and actively recommend amendments to the key internal controls.
  • Management & Leadership (40%):

    • Oversee hiring, onboarding, performance management, development, and recognition of direct reports.
    • Ensure team alignment with BC SPCA core values.
    • Provide active coaching and mentorship to ensure objectives and goals are met, celebrating individual and team successes.
    • Conduct regular SMART goal setting and performance reviews.
    • Lead team-building efforts.
    • Ensure coverage of team members’ duties during periods of absence as required.
    • Provide input on the annual finance unit roadmap and support implementation of key organizational priority projects.
    • Support a culture of innovation, teamwork, and embracing change.
    • Model exceptional standards of ethics, professionalism, and internal and external customer service standards.
    • Develop an annual plan for the team of direct reports, based on the strategic plan, the Finance team’s annual roadmap, and other key metrics, benchmarks, and industry best practices that support continuously improved processes and reporting.
    • Support the development of and compliance with key financial policies and standard operating procedures.
    • Build supportive and trusting relationships across all functions of the organization to ensure financial procedures are relevant, clear, and implemented effectively and to ensure the finance function is providing value-added support to the organization.
  • Other Duties (5%):

    • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A professional accounting designation (CPA) is required.
  • A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in financial management, including at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the non-profit sector is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of financial reporting, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Proficiency in financial software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
