POLICE COMMUNICATIONS DISPATCHER – LATERAL

The City of Oakland invites qualified individuals to apply for the position of Police Communications Dispatcher. Under general supervision, the Police Communications Dispatcher operates a centralized emergency communications center receiving calls for police assistance and dispatching law enforcement personnel by telephone or radio communications. This individual also provides information and referral to other public safety agencies and other services. The Police Communications Dispatcher type classification priorities in a chronological order the incoming information and is responsible for the dissemination of information to the field units. This recruitment is for experienced individuals who have performed the full range of duties for this classification in a law enforcement agency. Additional duties may include assigning, operating and monitoring mobile data terminals, participating in the training of newly hired police communication dispatchers and performing other related duties as required.

Education: Equivalent to graduation from high school supplemented by college-level course work in public safety or a related field

Experience: Minimum 2 years’ full-time experience as a Police Communication Dispatcher

License: Possession of a valid California driver’s license
