Job Description

Gwinnett County is accepting applications for Emergency 911 Call Taker within the Police Department. The central emergency communications center operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is the county’s primary 911 answering point for police, fire and medical emergency services.

This position receives emergency and non-emergency calls from the public, enter information into the computer-aided dispatch system for emergency response and coordinate the activation of police, fire and medical emergency responders as applicable.

The 911 Call Taker works with a team to effectively provide emergency response services to the citizens of Gwinnett County and other public safety agencies.

This role involves the use of specialized computer-aided dispatch software, radio communication equipment and resource management to respond to requests for service.

Responsibilities:

– Answer 911 and non-emergency calls from the public and enter information into the computer-aided dispatch system
– Assist in coordination of emergency response from police, fire and medical services
– Utilize specialized computer-aided dispatch software and radio communication equipment
– Follow emergency response protocols and procedures
– Communicate effectively with team members and emergency responders
– Provide support and assistance to other public safety agencies as needed
– Maintain a high level of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of the job

Qualifications:

– High school diploma or GED
– Strong communication and multitasking skills
– Ability to remain calm and focused in high-stress situations
– Proficient computer skills
– Prior experience in emergency communications or dispatch is preferred
– Must pass a thorough background investigation and pre-employment drug screening
– Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends and holidays
