Job Summary:
The PD&P Layout Designer will be responsible for performing 3D modeling of piping and equipment within a 3D modeling environment, as well as preparing drawings and documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics. The role involves coordinating with other engineering disciplines and ensuring compliance with approved design standards to provide quality design, reliable and safe plant operation, and construction economy. The position reports to the Mining & Metals Engineering Manager.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Perform 3D modeling of piping and equipment, preferably using SP3D.
  • Prepare drawings and documents for General Arrangements and piping isometrics.
  • Support planning and scheduling, and prepare/maintain design procedures and standards to ensure quality design documents.
  • Assist with coordination of 3D model activities, including input and interference reconciliation with other related disciplines.
  • Monitor all work for compliance with project standards, applicable codes, contract requirements, quality standards, discipline standards, and accepted engineering and construction practices.
  • Plan and schedule all discipline-related deliverables in accordance with contract and internal schedule dates.
  • Evaluate and optimize plant designs to maximize efficiency, safety, and operational performance.
  • Implement and enforce best practices for safety protocols, risk assessment, and hazard identification within the team.
  • Create and maintain project schedules, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery of projects.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Grade 27: AA/AS/Certification with 11 years of related design experience; or in lieu of degree, 15 years related design experience.
  • Hands-on experience using a 3D piping/layout design platform.
  • Experience using a 3D design platform and drawing/isometric extraction software.
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field.
  • At least 15 – 20 years of practical Mining & Metals engineering plant design experience.
  • Strong background in copper and gold plants.
  • Familiarity with the mining industry.
  • Experience in leading and guiding a team effectively, with an emphasis on continuous improvement, team building, and the ability to cope with conflicting deadlines and competing priorities.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Hands-on experience using a 3D piping/layout design platform.
  • Experience using a 2D drawing extraction platform.
