Job Overview:
The Strategic Pursuit Manager (SPM) collaborates with Environmental Services leadership and pursuit teams to align priorities and drive successful proposal, pursuit, and marketing activities on high-profile and complex strategic opportunities throughout the Environmental Services Business Operating Unit. The SPM provides strategic direction and guidance to pursuit teams to help position the company well in advance of the RFP by conducting research on markets, clients, and competitors to best position Stantec for success. The role includes oversight, coordination, and delivery on all aspects of complex proposals involving multiple contributors, collaborating with technical teams to brainstorm strategy and messaging, win plans, qualifications identification, content development, and managing the schedule, deadlines, and process.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategy Support and Implementation:

    • Implement the business development process on high-profile and complex strategic opportunities throughout the Region.
    • Collaborate with the Environmental Services Growth team, Sector Leads, Account Managers, Project Managers, and the Environmental Services Strategic Pursuits team in developing distinctive value propositions and win themes that clearly differentiate Stantec.
    • Leverage the companywide network to identify and put forward Stantec’s unique capabilities and resources.
    • Engage early in the client pursuit process to develop an overall action plan that includes due diligence, profiles of decision-makers and influencers, competitor analysis, project-specific win plans, strategic teaming plans, and spearhead the preliminary go/no-go and strategy reviews.
    • Support pursuit teams in key pre-RFP activities, such as client, competitor, and market research; identifying and tracking top client capital plans.
    • Work actively with pursuit teams to develop and implement pursuit-specific action plans in the "middle game" (once a specific opportunity is identified, but prior to the issuance of an RFP), including documenting due diligence in project briefs, developing win plans, conducting SWOT analyses, and preparing executive summaries.
    • Plan, organize, and direct all elements of the "end game" (signified by the issuance of an RFP), including analyzing client requests, developing response plans, initiating follow-up go/no-go decisions, facilitating strategy reviews, conducting kick-off meetings, managing and working with pursuit teams to develop response sections, leading in-progress reviews, preparing red team review packages, incorporating red team input, scheduling pricing reviews, and ensuring on-time response delivery.
    • Work with pursuit teams in developing innovative solutions and leverage the corporate network to identify existing capabilities that respond to client challenges and create a distinctive competitive advantage.
    • Create and modify existing materials and write content to effectively communicate services, capabilities, and market messages.
    • Drive the proposal management and development process of diverse teams towards client-established deadlines and in compliance with client-set expectations.
    • Display creativity in approach and content to develop compelling proposals that effectively communicate Stantec’s value proposition.
  • Proposal Management:

    • Lead the development of high-quality proposals, ensuring alignment with client requirements and Stantec’s strategic objectives.
    • Coordinate with various internal teams to gather necessary information and resources for proposal development.
    • Review and edit proposal content to ensure clarity, accuracy, and compliance with client specifications.
    • Manage the proposal schedule, ensuring timely delivery of all proposal components.
    • Conduct post-submission debriefs to identify areas for improvement in future proposals.
  • Client Relationship Management:

    • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients and stakeholders.
    • Understand client needs and objectives to tailor proposals and strategies effectively.
    • Represent Stantec in client meetings, presentations, and negotiations.
    • Monitor client satisfaction and address any concerns promptly.
  • Team Leadership and Development:

    • Lead and mentor pursuit teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance environment.
    • Provide guidance and support to team members throughout the proposal process.
    • Identify training and development needs within the team and coordinate appropriate resources.
    • Promote a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in proposal management, business development, or a related field, preferably within the environmental services industry.
  • Strong understanding of the environmental services market and key clients.
  • Proven track record of successfully managing complex proposals and pursuits.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and proposal management software.
  • Ability to travel as required for client meetings and site visits.
