Job description: Alexandra Hospital, Ingersoll is actively seeking applicants for a Registered Dietitian position. The Registered Dietitian provides professional nutrition support to the Diabetes Education program and promotes nutritional well-being to the patients, families, hospital team members and to the Community.Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide therapeutic nutritional assessment, nutritional counselling and appropriate follow-up for physician or self-referred out-patients, families and team members at the Diabetes Education Centre.
  • Provide Diabetes education including, but not limited to, self-monitoring of blood glucose, insulin and oral hypoglycemic agents titration, hypoglycemia treatment and prevention, etc., and appropriate follow up for physician and self-referred out-patients, families and team members at the Diabetes Education Centre.
  • Develop, revise and implement nutrition and health education programs and activities (i.e. Nutrition Month, Diabetes Month) in the Hospital and within the Community.
  • Provide support services to the Food Services Department.
  • Act as a mentor and educator for dietetic interns from various university programs.
  • Conduct bedside swallowing screens for referred in-patients.
  • Conduct bedside nutrition education and provide support for tube feeding for referred in-patients.
  • Successfully complete hospital certification programs required.
  • Participate fully in the College Quality Assurance program.
  • Responsible for continuing education in relevant areas.
  • Know and follow infection prevention and control / hand hygiene practices.
  • Contribute to patient safety by identifying and reporting patient safety hazards/risks.
  • Initiate and participate in Quality Improvement activities.
  • Collaborate with other team members.
  • Knowledgeable of the roles of other team members and recognizes their contributions.
  • Follow Hospital policies and procedures and those applicable to assigned duties;
  • Follow safe working practices and abiding by the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Use sound judgement and awareness of potential hazards before acting;
  • Promptly report errors/events or situations of actual or potential event or harm;
  • Maintain privacy and confidentiality;
  • Contribute to positive work life and physical environment.
  • Carry out duties in a way that embodies the mission, vision and values of providing a patient and family-centered experience and high quality care; and
  • Work cooperatively with fellow employees and management towards the achievement of the Hospitals’ strategic priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Nutrition (or equivalent), with recognized internship from accredited facility.
  • Registered member of the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
  • Eligible for membership with Dietitians of Canada.
  • Certified Diabetes Educator with the Canadian Diabetes Association Educator Section preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of patients and stakeholders.
  • High level of initiative and adaptability to rapidly changing demands.
  • Able to work independently as well as collaboratively within an inter-professional health care team.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, organizational and time management skills.

Other pertinent conditions:

  • Salary per the OPSEU collective agreement ($41.66 per hour to $53.28 per hour)
