This 12-month internship will offer the opportunity to collaborate with production engineers, project managers, quality teams, and manufacturing technologists. The intern will gain hands-on experience working directly with our manufacturing team, responsible for assembling and testing medical devices, equipment, and disposables, all in line with strict specifications.This position is integral to the Manufacturing Team, which focuses on the production of our Cocoon® product line, developed to automate the manufacturing of cell-based therapies for clinical applications. As an Operations Intern, you will play a key role in supporting the full product lifecycle of the Cocoon® platform. The position is on-site at our Kingston office with a standard work schedule of Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM.Key responsibilities:Assist the Operations team in creating fixture drawings, specifications, design reviews, and analysis.Actively engage in continuous process improvement activities to enhance operational efficiency.Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve issues related to the manufacturing of electromechanical instruments and accessories.Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to deliver successful project outcomes.Draft and revise technical documentation, including test protocols, reports, bills of materials, work instructions, and quality forms.Execute corrective actions to improve product quality and manufacturing processes.Ensure compliance with quality system requirements and documentation standards.Work effectively within a self-directed team environment.Present results and findings to your direct supervisor and team members.Perform other duties as assigned.Key requirements:Currently enrolled in an Engineering program (3rd or 4th year).Engineering focus in Manufacturing automation, mechanical, materials, or systems design is preferred.Strong technical writing skills, particularly in compliance and documentation.Hands-on skills and a quick learner when it comes to tool usage and practical applications.Technical report writing skills are an asset.Familiarity with CAD software and the ability to read engineering drawings or schematics (SolidWorks preferred).Experience in troubleshooting, problem-solving, and root cause analysis.Previous experience working within a quality management system or regulated environment is beneficial.Strong data analysis, presentation, and communication skills.Excellent written and verbal communication skills.Ability to work independently and manage tasks efficiently.Strong work ethic and a proactive approach to problem-solving.Team-oriented with the ability to collaborate and contribute effectively.Every day, Lonza’s products and services have a positive impact on millions of people. The Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering student will be responsible for hands-on cell culture support in the development innovative cell manufacturing products. This Engineering Intern will be expected to assist in the design and execution of experiments. Cross departmental communication will be required to convey requirements to achieve targets. The Engineering Intern will be responsible for acquiring, analyzing, and communicating experimental data in a cross-functional fashion.
