- Perform technical calculations such as mechanical loading, support spacing, and clearance verification.
- Analyze and interpret study results to inform design decisions and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure system integration and resolve interface issues.
- Prepare engineering OCS design drawings, including plan and profile drawings, cross sections, and support arrangements.
- Prepare technical specifications, bills of quantities (BOQs), and installation drawings.
- Provide technical support during installation, testing, and commissioning phases.
- Develop and review test and commissioning procedures.
- and validate engineering drawings, calculations, technical specifications, and compliance reports.
- Build trusted relationships with clients, providing ongoing technical guidance and project updates throughout the lifecycle.
- Ensure designs comply with railway electrification standards, especially the North American railway electrification standards, including AREMA, CSA, and applicable provincial regulations.
- Use MicroStation and other CAD platforms for detailed design. Familiarity with additional OCS-related or rail electrification software is considered an asset.
What you’ll bring to WSP:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. A master’s degree is considered an asset.
- Licensure: Licensed as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Ontario or eligible for licensure.
- Communication: Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare technical reports, specifications, and client-facing documentation.
- Proficiency in CAD software, especially MicroStation.
- Experience Expectations by Level:
- Junior Level: New graduate to 5 years related experience and strong academic foundation.
- Intermediate Level: 5-12 years related experience within rail or transit projects.
- Senior Level: 10+ years of related experience within rail or transit projects, with demonstrated leadership in project delivery, client engagement, and mentoring.
Additional Assets:
- Experience with structural analysis or rail-specific design tools.
- Involvement in the preparation or review of construction, testing, and commissioning documentation.
- Understanding of traction power system integration and interface with signaling, civil, and communications systems.
Must-have Skills for both senior and intermediate-level roles:
- Demonstrating independent design capability, cross-disciplinary coordination, and field experience to deliver safe, reliable, and sustainable solutions that meet client and regulatory expectations
- In-depth knowledge of Canadian and international transit standards and regulatory frameworks (e.g., AREMA, CSA, etc.).
- Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills
