In this multi-faceted role, the Director, Digital DevOps & Shared Capabilities will lead software development of digital shared capabilities (e.g., digital search, customer identification, notification, etc) as well as transformating digital technology into a truly ‘always-on’ digital customer experience. About The Role

The Director, Shared Capabilities & DevOps will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of common digital capabilities, ensure common capabilities can easily be leverage by other engineering teams, and ensure governance around re-use and expansion of shared capabilities. Further, this role will also establish state-of-the-art DevOps capabilities and implement CI/CD pipelines for fully automated digital builds and on-demand releases.

In addition, this role will be responsible for highly available, performant, and secure digital applications. As such, this role will lead digital technology operations including digital service and support management, delivering modern monitoring capabilities, optimizing support operating model, and leading a continuous improvement roadmap. The role will direct the team in implementing SRE solutions (monitoring and alerting, machine learning anomaly detection, self-healing and reliability testing) while striving to reduce toil using automation tools, and maintain technology currency (perform server patching, version updates, certificate renewal, etc.) with a view on automation.


About the Role

In this role, you will have the following responsibilities/accountabilities:

  • Excellent understanding of SDLC in an Agile development environment.

  • Excellent understanding of modern web and digital marketing technologies

  • Excellent understanding of technology service management and technology support operations

  • Lead staff sizing and delivery/resource forecasting

  • Manage and negotiate scope with development teams, product partners, vendors, and stakeholders

  • Ability to work with partners to optimize outsourcing, SOW and contingent work

Organizational Effectiveness / People Skills

  • Provide leadership by establishing the group’s and individual’s goals.

  • Ensure product releases are well planned and executed successfully

  • Ensure ‘always-on’ digital services by establishing required technology services and support operating model

  • Responsible for assessing and recommending improvements to the organization structure, roles, and responsibilities.

  • Responsible for department and individual performance assessments and improvement plans.

  • Responsible for coaching, counseling, assisting employees in developing individual career development and training plans.

  • Create trust and credibility with stakeholders and customers and work with them to identify issues and opportunities.

  • Remove roadblocks to delivery execution with diplomacy and a sense of urgency.

  • Improves the quality of development in the organizations and promotes the best development practices, under the direction of management.

  • Implement metrics to measure velocity and code quality to improve business value.

  • Build transparency, accountability, and collaboration in the distributed team.

Technical /Professional Skills & Competencies – People/Leadership Skills

  • Manage globally distributed team of software engineers and technology services managers

  • Determine new, creative methods to employ teams on projects and distribute responsibilities.

  • Lead the design, architecture, development, and deployment of digital products

  • Lead the design and implementation of digital support operating model

  • Adopting best practices in all aspects of design and development.

  • Implement robust monitoring and logging solutions.

  • Establish and monitor continuous deployment, including development and management of the pipeline

  • Provide continuous integration, automated build, automated deployment, and environment management knowledge transfer to staff

  • Identify opportunities for change and develop plans for capitalizing on these opportunities.


About You


You’re a fit for the role if you have:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible software engineering

  • 8-10 years of technology service management and operations

  • 5+ years of managing distributed teams

  • Experience in managing cutting-edge technologies as well as modernizing legacy technology

  • Experience in delivering large complex applications

  • Experience with public cloud (preferably AWS) in a production environment

  • Experience collaborating with multiple functional/technical teams to deliver projects

  • Experience with CI/CD pipeline automation

  • Demonstrated growth mindset, enthusiastic about learning new technologies quickly and applying the gained knowledge to address business problems

  • Knowledge of source control management using Git and TFS.

  • Ability to influence peers and leadership.

  • Financial acumen and experience in managing budgets

  • Strong experience working with vendors for optimized, outsourced, SOW and contingent work

  • Good presentation and persuasion skills
