Co-op and WIL give students an opportunity to apply skills learned in the classroom, and to expand their knowledge through related work experience. The Department of Arts and Science Co-op is responsible for preparing over 2,700undergraduate students from 37 academic areas to complete for paid co-op work term opportunities. The department is also responsible for engaging industry partners who provide these work terms. A coordinated effort among the stakeholders of student, employer, and university co-op programming contribute to the development of well qualified graduates who are prepared to assume a productive role in society. Recognizing that Black, Indigenous, and other Racialized communities have experienced inequities that have developed historically and are ongoing, we strongly welcome and encourage candidates from those communities to apply.Your opportunity:Reporting to the Assistant Director, Student Services, the Work Term Engagement Coordinator works with Arts & Science Co-op students as they engage in the competitive process of applying for co-op work terms. During the co-op recruitment cycle, the Work Term Engagement Coordinator provides support, guidance and advice to students with their job search, with the goal of obtaining 100% hiring targets. The incumbent will work pro-actively with students to ensure that they are fully engaged in applying for positions, and track student application levels and overall participation in required workshops, meetings and interviews. The Work Term Engagement Coordinator will also support students who are on work term by being a resource to address questions or concerns.Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and implementing plans to enhance student engagement activities.
  • Advising and coaching students on the selection of appropriate work-integrated learning opportunities.
  • Advising students on specific employer expectations, the preparation of cover letters and resumes.
  • Advising students and employers on options to resolve work-term issues.
  • Implementing plans and process improvements for program and service activities.
  • Facilitating educational workshops and seminars.
  • Drafting and editing training content.
  • Keeping well-informed on recruitment trends.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Certification in career development, career counselling, human resources, adult learning and development, or a graduate degree in a relevant area will be considered a strong asset.
  • Minimum three years of experience advising and supporting individuals with career transition and active job search.
  • Experience creating and delivering workshops and information sessions with a strong understanding of student and career development theories.
  • Experience and knowledge of online facilitation, adult learning principles, educational technologies and use of digital/social media, online learning concepts and learning outcomes.
  • Knowledge of workplace standards, recruitment and hiring practices, occupations, current labour market conditions and performance management techniques preferably gained through a role in a metrics oriented co-operative education or internship program, or a specialist recruitment function in human resources.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to communicate effectively and empathetically with a diverse university student population and have a genuine desire to meet the needs of students.
  • Strong interpersonal, facilitation and coaching skills, with a student focused commitment to service delivery and achieving targets.
  • Applicants are expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.
  • Ability to manage conflicting demands and large amounts of information, prioritize and work well under pressure, with a solid attention to detail, accuracy and organization.
  • Strong computer skills including Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and sourcing information and data using the internet and social media sits such as LinkedIn, with the ability and initiative to learn and adapt to new technologies.
  • Active listening skills with proven ability to motivate and engage students to achieve results.
  • Demonstrated integrity, tact, sound judgment and ability to exercise confidentiality.
  • Team player with demonstrated initiative, flexibility and creative problem solving skills.
  • Self-motivated learner with demonstrated commitment to professional growth and development.

  • Exposure to customized relationship management databases such as Symplicity or Orbis.
