This opportunity is to join the Personalized Medicine team, based in Kingston, Ontario for a 12-16 month internship. This internship focuses on supporting the Innovation team design concepts for next generation products/features to enhance the Cocoon® platform. The Cocoon® platform is specifically developed to automate the production of cell-based therapies for clinical applications. Currently, the primary application is focused on CAR T cell immunotherapy treatments for cancer-related treatments. For more information, please see the following link:https://www.lonza.com/cocoonThe intern will work on cross-disciplinary projects, combining engineering and cell biology, with the goal of driving innovation in the optimization of an automated bioreactor system related to the manufacture and use of therapeutic cells. The biologist or biology-related engineering student will be responsible for hands-on cell culture support in the development innovative cell manufacturing products. This team member will be expected to assist in the design and execution of experiments. Cross departmental communication, or communication with external parties, may be required. The intern will be responsible for acquiring, analyzing, and communicating experimental data. This person will be accountable for achieving key goals according to a schedule.Key Responsibilities:
- Planning and executing experiments to evaluate and optimize novel cell manufacturing concepts
- Work with a multidisciplinary team to deliver on Innovation projects
- Analyze processes for improvement
- Independently design and execute experiments including data analysis, communication of results and proposals for next steps
- Comply with Quality system requirements and documentation
- Execute tests and documentation required to qualify and launch a new product for cell culture manufacturing
- Maintain accurate and up to date records, including appropriate lab notebook recordings
- Capable of achieving deliverables in a timely fashion
- Writing and revising technical documents including lab protocols and reports
- Quickly learns new biological techniques, including flow cytometry
- Work within a self-directed team environment
- Present results to direct supervisor and members of the team
- Perform other duties as assigned
