This is a place where you can expect the unexpected.Find our story here:The role:We are looking for an experienced and visionary Director of Data Governance and Culture to lead our data governance initiatives and foster a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role will be pivotal in establishing a robust data governance framework, enhancing data literacy, and ensuring compliance with data policies and standards. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams to promote a culture that values data as a strategic asset.Your role as a Director, Data Governance & Culture, you will:

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive data governance program that aligns with the organization’s goals and objectives, ensuring data is managed as a strategic asset. Manage program components and ensure successful implementation through a well-developed and executed communication, training, and stakeholder engagement plan.
  • Framework Development: Establish and maintain a robust data governance framework, including policies, standards, and procedures that promote data quality, integrity, and security. Develop the data quality framework and establish the data quality dimensions for Meridian data assets.
  • Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the data governance team, fostering a collaborative environment that encourages innovation and continuous improvement in data practices.
  • Data Culture Promotion: Champion a culture of data literacy and data-driven decision-making throughout the organization, ensuring that all employees understand the importance of data governance.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs, address challenges, and ensure alignment with data governance initiatives.
  • AI and analytics governance: Build and lead the Responsible AI program for Meridian and establish the Responsible AI Advisory Committee to ensure all stakeholders are at the table.
  • Change Management: Drive change management efforts to facilitate the adoption of data governance practices, including developing communication strategies and training programs.
  • Compliance Oversight: Research and understand the regulatory environment in Canada and globally, as it pertains to both data and analytics, including AI. Ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards, monitoring adherence to data governance policies and practices.
  • Data culture: Help enhance the data literacy of the organization and foster a culture of insights-driven decisions and actions. Develop broad-scope as well as bespoke data and AI literacy programs and content. Act as a thought leader and advisor and work closely with HR and other partners across Meridian to influence and develop components of our training programs shaping our future workforce.
  • Performance Measurement: Establish metrics and KPIs to assess the effectiveness of data governance and data literacy initiatives and report on progress to senior leadership.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities for enhancing data & analytics governance practices and recommend innovative solutions to improve data quality and accessibility.
  • Communications, operating and engagement models: Set the direction and guidelines for ED&A’s operating and engagement models, prioritization frameworks, and internal communications practices.
  • Collaboration with IT & ED&A leaders: Work closely with the other directors in ED&A, IT, and business and technical data stewards to ensure the integration of data governance practices into data architecture and technology solutions.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team.
  • Strategic Thinking: Excellent strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on aligning data governance initiatives with business objectives. Experience developing data or analytics strategies is a definite plus.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Technical Proficiency: In-depth knowledge of data governance frameworks, data quality management, and data privacy regulations. Data and analytics technology knowledge is a plus.
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Administration, or a related field; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data analytics, data governance, data management, compliance, risk, or a related field, with a proven track record of leading data governance initiatives in a large organization.
