Job description: BettingJobs is thrilled to collaborate with our client, a prominent online bookmaker known for transforming the sports betting and gaming industry, in their search for a Financial Controller based in Toronto.Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial processes across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Stay updated on financial regulations and align internal policies accordingly.
  • Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to manage financial risks.
  • Lead and support remote finance teams, fostering accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure seamless cross-team collaboration across time zones and cultures.
  • Oversee budgeting processes, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Manage tax filings and ensure compliance with local and international obligations.
  • Supervise the full accounting cycle, from transaction recording to financial reporting.
  • Lead financial audits, coordinating with internal and external auditors.
  • Ensure timely vendor payments and manage accounts payable efficiently.
  • Maintain financial records in QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics, ensuring accuracy and efficiency.
  • Generate financial reports for stakeholders, investors, and regulators.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline and automate financial reporting.
  • Analyse financial data to optimise costs and identify revenue growth opportunities.
  • Implement internal controls to safeguard assets and mitigate risks.
  • Work with senior management to align financial strategies with business objectives.
  • Address audit findings promptly and maintain strong auditor relationships.

Requirements

  • Expertise in financial and regulatory challenges within online gaming and betting sectors.
  • Experience navigating multiple regulatory jurisdictions, including licensing and compliance.
  • Strong financial risk management and reporting experience in high-growth environments.
  • Legal right to work in Canada without visa sponsorship.
  • Understanding of Canadian tax laws and regulatory frameworks (preferred).
  • Proven leadership managing finance teams across different time zones.
  • Experience implementing financial best practices in remote-first or hybrid environments.
  • Effective communicator in distributed team settings.
  • In-depth knowledge of international and local tax laws, financial compliance, and corporate accounting.
  • Hands-on experience with tax filings, corporate audits, and financial disclosures.
  • Proven ability to implement audit-ready financial controls.
  • Experience managing financial transactions and reporting with QuickBooks and Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Ability to optimise financial workflows and train teams on best practices.
  • Strong decision-making skills in complex financial environments.
  • Analytical mindset for financial data interpretation and strategic recommendations.
  • Excellent leadership and communication skills to guide teams and influence stakeholders.
