*Pay Range: $45.00 – $50.00 CAD hourlyPOSITION SUMMARY:
SDFX Studios is growing and we’re seeking a highly skilled Digital Matte Painter Lead for visual effects. The role of the DMP Lead is to manage a team to create background matte painting that matches the established visual aesthetic on schedule.MAIN DUTIES:
The Digital Matte Painting Lead will be responsible for the creation of matte paintings of landscapes, sets, buildings and skies that match into the established visual style of rendered assets, working from 2D and 3D visual development reference. They will create alternate variations of paintings for different times of day, change in perspective, changes in environment, etc. and create high-end feature quality artwork properly and on schedule. This includes properly executing changes and notes from the Production Designer and other key creative on a project in a timely manner. Additional duties include:

  • Help oversee team targets and quotas.
  • Collaborate and lead an international team of artists.

WHAT YOU BRING:
The ideal candidate will have an educational background in Animation, Film, Art or equivalent professional work experience, and will bring strong knowledge of Photoshop (experience with other programs a plus). They will have a strong artistic skillset and ability to work in various styles and iterate and create variations. Additional desired skills include:

  • Must be open to and encouraging of receiving notes and direction.
  • Ability to create and understand orthographic views.
  • Must have a strong understanding of light and shadow.
  • Must have a strong understanding of color theory.
  • Link to Demo Reel/Portfolio showcasing 3D modeling work done in recent years.
