Reporting to the General Manager, the Director of Production is responsible for delivering all Crow’s programming at the highest standards of artistic and technical excellence—on time, on budget, and with deep care for the people who make the work happen.This senior leadership role is central to enabling Crow’s ambition and supporting its continued growth as one of Canada’s most vital producing theatres. The Director of Production works closely with the Artistic Director, Executive Director, producers, and the broader artistic and administrative teams to realize creative visions, develop production systems, and ensure an inclusive, efficient, and artistically rewarding environments for all.KEY RESPONSIBILITIESProduction Leadership

• Oversee all aspects of production planning and execution for Crow’s Theatre’s season, including mainstage productions, co-productions, presentations, tours, and digital projects.
• Lead and manage the Production Manager, Technical Director, and other production and technical staff, fostering a culture of excellence, respect, and collaboration.
• Support directors, designers, and creative teams throughout the development, rehearsal, and performance process.
• Maintain strong communication across departments to ensure efficient workflow and project integration.
• Uphold and advance Crow’s commitments to artist and staff safety, accessibility, environmental stewardship, and equity-informed practices.

Budgeting and Strategic Planning

• Develop, manage, and monitor all production budgets in collaboration with the production and technical teams, ensuring responsible forecasting and cost management.
• Participate in season planning and artistic development as a strategic partner to the Artistic Director and Executive Director.
• Continuously assess and improve production workflows, tools, and systems to increase efficiency, clarity, and staff well-being.

Staffing and Team Culture

• Oversee production department staffing: hiring, onboarding, scheduling, supervision, and professional development.
• Provide mentorship and leadership across the department with a focus on collaboration, communication, and care.
• Ensure a productive and healthy workplace culture rooted in respect, flexibility, and shared purpose.

Cross-Departmental Collaboration

• Partner with the producing, marketing, philanthropy, and front-of-house teams on company-wide projects, special events, and presentations.
• Serve as a liaison to co-producing and presenting partners, external designers, suppliers, and production vendors.
• Support Crow’s touring projects as needed with technical and logistical planning.

Facility

• Oversee capital upgrades, theatrical equipment maintenance, and long-term planning for Crow’s venues in collaboration with the Technical Director and General Manager.
• Oversee production-related storage planning and asset lifecycle budgeting.
• Supports the General Manager, and consults on the building operations and facilities budget to ensure the ongoing maintenance, security, and operation of Streetcar Crowsnest and Nada Ristich Studio Gallery.
• Responsible for capital planning and asset (lifecycle) management.
• Other duties as required.
