There is ample opportunity to shape the future of ESG Global and be a core part of our continued growth and success.Your Role & How You Will ContributeAs a Principal, you will report to the CEO and be responsible for business development, client management and oversight, as well as internal firm/team leadership. As a boutique firm, our clients value a hands-on, pragmatic approach led by our senior team. Principals should bring a deep network of contacts in Canada, the United States and/or Europe. A successful Principal will be a recognized leader in ESG with deep expertise in an industry (e.g., mining, oil & gas, real estate, manufacturing, infrastructure) or a specific area of ESG (e.g., responsible investment, climate change, diversity, equity and inclusion).Executive presence and an engaging communication style are key to achieving the goals of this role, as you educate, persuade, and gain the commitment and buy-in of others. While the role requires strong initiative and self-direction, results are only achieved with and through people (including clients and team members). Key Duties & ResponsibilitiesWe deliver tailored solutions for our clients, most of which are described in greater detail . Our leadership team has a variety of specializations, and we work collaboratively to provide best-in-class client service focused on adding value on every engagement.Client Management & Oversight

  • On some projects, Principals provide high-level oversight and expert advice to Directors who act as project leads.
  • On some projects, Principals act as project leads, managing project teams to execute the work, providing detailed coaching and guidance on solutions and concepts including how to tailor our approach to the client’s unique business
  • Project and relationship management (e.g., budgets, workplans, status updates, meetings, calls, emails, presentations).
  • Oversight of client deliverables, including planning, delegating, coordinating, detail review and budget/hours tracking to the firm’s high-quality standards.
  • As a boutique firm, there is minimal administrative support on client work, so all team members must be comfortable with a high attention to detail.

Business Development

  • Work with the CEO to lead new business development activities, including new client pitches and proposal development focusing on larger clients and complex/large mandates.
  • Regularly contribute to thought leadership and blog content for posting on our website, and social media channels (over 30,000 followers on LinkedIn!).
  • Leveraging profile and network, participate speaking engagements and produce thought leadership in areas of expertise.

Firm/Team Leadership

  • Support the CEO and leadership team by providing strategic advice on firm growth plans based on market insights and client relationships.
  • Manage junior team members to meet their core performance objectives.
  • Lead junior team members to support their development and career progression at the firm.
  • Contribute to internal knowledge transfer by documenting processes, establishing and updating templates, and ensuring project insights are captured.
  • Proactively propose and implement innovations and enhancements to existing service offerings and operational policies and processes.

QualificationsEducation

  • An undergraduate degree is required in a relevant discipline (e.g., commerce, finance, environmental science, sustainability management).
  • A graduate degree or other advanced credential (e.g. CFA, CPA, FSA) would be an asset.

Experience

  • At least ten years’ professional experience is required
  • A minimum of two years’ experience at a consulting firm is required.
  • People management experience is required. This includes managing direct reports, delegating, reviewing work and offering constructive feedback.
  • Direct ESG experience is required either working with corporations or investors
  • Experience working at or with corporations (private or publicly traded) providing analysis and strategic advice on ESG matters
  • Experience working at or with investors (asset owners or asset managers) providing analysis and strategic advice on ESG matters
  • Business development or sales experience is required, ideally including working with a CRM system.

Expertise

  • Strong and direct understanding of investor perspectives on ESG, including links to value creation.
  • Strong grasp of key ESG frameworks including the SASB Standards, the TCFD recommendations, ISSB Standards, CDP, CRESB, and the UN PRI Reporting Framework.
  • Expertise and interest in climate change, social impact or impact investment would be an asset.
  • Capable of undertaking sophisticated ESG analysis, research and benchmarking for investor and corporate clients with little to no direction or supervision.
  • Exceptional writing, communication, and presentation skills, able to distill complex topics into easy-to-understand language.
  • Strong relationship management skills with the ability to pro-actively resolve issues and concerns in a professional manner.
  • Fluency in French or Spanish is an asset.
