As the national voice of Canadian municipalities, FCM is an organization that strives to make the communities Canadians live in more prosperous, sustainable, and equitable.Role OverviewThe Continuous Improvement Fellow will work within the Continuous Improvement team. This team contributes to making GMF thrive by working with other teams to improve processes and find the right-sized solution that leads GMF to be collectively more effective and more efficient. The CI team help GMF create a culture of continuous improvement by ensuring the philosophy of Lean improvement is instilled in everyone, empowering employees to make daily, incremental improvements which ultimately improve the quality of the products and services we offer our clients.What You’ll DoPrimary Component (80%); Continuous Improvement (CI)The scope of work may include program coordination support and research to:
- Support the CI team in designing, coordinating and implementing Lean and continuous improvement initiatives (i.e. coordinating and developing content of training programs, building consultation platforms, developing PowerPoint presentations, etc.).
- Support the CI team in conducting surveys and polls through different platforms.
- Support the CI team in defining, streamlining and documenting processes.
- Support the CI team in developing the methodology for data collection and reporting (definition of terms, desired format, data requirements, etc.) and data entry.
- Support the CI team in the development of other tools to enable measurement and evaluation of the initiatives.
- Support the CI team in other related tasks or initiatives, as required.
Secondary Component (20%); Jack Layton Memorial Project:
- Work collaboratively within a team of 7 fellows selected from various FCM departments.
- Continue the development of a campaign to commemorate Jack Layton’s work. This campaign will focus on youth engagement in local communities with an emphasis on participation in municipal issues.
Considering a Summer PlacementThis is a 16-week paid summer placement where students will gain hands-on experience while building valuable professional networks.
- Duration: May–August 2024
- Compensation: $21.00/hour + 4% vacation pay (subject to statutory deductions)
- Hours:
– May–June: 7.5 hours/day, Monday to Friday– July–August: 7 hours/day, Monday to Thursday (summer hours)
- Work Model: Hybrid (virtual & on-site in Ottawa)
- You must be currently enrolled in Post secondary education to be considered for a Jack Layton Fellowship placement
