Job description: FW Development Intern (Paid)Ottawa, Canada (On-site)Hours: 40hrs a weekLength of assignment (3-month summer internship)SUMMARY: As a FW Development Intern, you will be working closely with the Research and Advanced Development Team at Natus Medical – where you will be investigating and implementing state-of-the-art technologies for the development of next-generation products in the areas of neurodiagnostics (e.g. EEG, PSG, EMG). This is a great opportunity to gain valuable skills. You can expect to design, develop, and modify software and firmware for electronic equipment, or other hardware systems and/or electrical engineering applications for projects in our exciting and complex neurology medical device portfolio.What you’ll get to do:
- Work closely with Natus Research Scientists or FW engineering team members to understand their needs and methodologies and contribute to their software development.
- Design, develop and test concepts that could lead to the next generation products, platforms, and algorithms.
- Design and execute studies/experiments to demonstrate feasibility, establish benefits and identify path-to-product risks.
- Aid Natus Research and Advanced Development team with translating developed algorithms between languages, cleaning and curating physiological datasets, or developing and testing pre-defined software functions.
- Present out to small engineering teams the problem(s) you were tasked with solving, methodology used, and results.
- Under the supervision of Technical leads troubleshoot firmware design issues related to production, customer complaints, supplier quality, or other sources.
What we are looking for:
- Student enrolled in undergraduate or graduate-level courses in the field(s) of computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, or biomedical engineering.
- Experience with C/C++, Java, and/or Python required.
- Interest in learning to develop neurophysiological sensor-based data acquisition systems or applications.
- Experience with embedded systems, ZeroMQ, computational modeling, or DSP experience a plus.
- Experience with machine learning a plus.
- Entrepreneurial; self-directed and excited to build something from scratch.
- High-energy self-starter with a passion for your work, attention to detail, and a positive attitude.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
