This role follows a hybrid work model, requiring regular attendance at our Toronto office.What you’ll be challenged to do:As an Electrical Designer – Traffic Signals & Infrastructure Lighting, you will have the opportunity to expand your career by tackling new challenges and collaborating closely with peers and senior-level colleagues to enhance processes and solve complex problems. Your role will involve managing, implementing, and leading small projects, including the design, production, coordination, and management of Traffic Signal Design and Infrastructure Lighting projects. You will develop traffic signal, lighting, and auxiliary systems designs in AutoCAD and/or MicroStation, while actively collaborating with stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of projects.In this capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Designing traffic signals and infrastructure illumination for various clients.
  • Leading the preparation of photometric layouts, traffic signal layouts, and wiring diagrams.
  • Performing voltage drop calculations and preparing contract documents and specifications.
  • Conducting site visits and administering contracts, including on-site light level surveys (night inspections).
  • Coordinating multi-discipline teams and utilities for electrical infrastructure and transportation-related design and construction projects.
  • Preparing technical reports, tender documentation, and providing field support for commissioning, traffic signal turn-on, and site inspections.
  • Reviewing engineering deliverables to ensure they comply with applicable regulations, standards, and corporate procedures.

:What you will bring to our firm:

  • A Technologist diploma in Electrical Engineering.
  • 3+ years of relevant work experience in construction design-consulting.
  • Proficiency in computer-aided design software such as Microstation and AutoCAD.
  • Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals, Lighting Standards, Ontario Electrical Safety Code, Highway Traffic Act, and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada.

What we prefer you bring:

  • 4+ years of relevant experience in traffic signal and street lighting design, ideally in a design-consulting or utility environment.
  • Eligibility for or attainment of CTech or CET certification.
  • Knowledge of various municipal and MTO lighting and traffic signal design standards.
  • Proficiency with light calculation software such as AGI32 or Autolux.
  • Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities.
  • Experience with pole loading software, such as SPIDAcalc or equivalent.
  • Experience performing electrical site inspections, construction supervision, and contract administration.
