Position Title: Coordinator, Student Life – First Year Experience
Status: FT Support
Hours: 35hrs/week
Faculty/Department: Student Success and Engagement, Transition and Acedemic Support
Campus/Location: Lakeshore Campus, 4days on campus, 1 day remote
Salary: FT Support Payband H (Start $36.29 – Max $42.13)About the Student Success and Engagement Dept at Humber:The Department of Student Success & Engagement (SSE) supports students’ active participation in experiential initiatives, promotes student health, wellness and inclusivity, and offers a variety of educational and career-related support services to help current Humber students, recent graduates and newcomers to Canada achieve their academic and personal goals. SSE also supports our local communities by providing opportunities to build capacity and share resources.SSE is comprised of Athletics and Recreation, Student Events, Student Wellness and Equity, and Transition and Academic Support.About the [Position Title] Role:Reporting to the Manager, Student Life, the Student Life Coordinator (SLC) is responsible for the development and delivery of programs aimed at supporting students in making a successful transition to post-secondary learning, including transition related programs at Humber. The Coordinator will facilitate a diverse array of programming by supporting the many varied lived experiences and pathways into post-secondary education. The position collaborates extensively with departments, faculty and staff throughout Humber, including IGNITE student government. The Coordinator supports student development, retention and persistence initiatives, coordinates activities and events, including peer led programs and provides leadership development opportunities and resources to various student constituents. These responsibilities create, promote and enhance a sense of connection and community– to both Humber campuses and to other students, whether in person or virtually.Responsibility includes all facets of: hiring, training and instructing student staff and volunteers, planning, logistics and implementation of programs, as well as the development and delivery of marketing, media and communications strategies. The incumbent is responsive to student, faculty and staff needs; proactively engaging or reactively responding to needs which are identified by students, staff or faculty. Working with Institutional Research and Analysis, the coordinator will create and maintain a detailed and comprehensive data collection and analysis plan to: communicate with the Humber Exec, IGNITE and students; to determine the effectiveness of programming; to evolve, adapt and remain responsive to changing student needsThe Incumbent will work to advance Equity and Inclusion of equity deserving groups, actively working to identify and remove barriers to access and participation. The incumbent will remain current on leading practice, join national and international professional networks, and work to innovate: communicating with participants, determining their wants and needs, to produce a responsive and relevant program.   • Demonstrated ability and proven success within the field of student services at a post-secondary institution for a minimum of four years.
  • Ability to work independently with excellent problem solving skills.
  • Direct experience in event planning, in person and in a virtual setting.
  • Marketing and Communications experience.
  • Hiring, training, or working with students at a post-secondary institution is required.
  • Experience creating and presenting workshops on topics including equity and inclusion, leadership and conflict resolution.
  • Experience in developing, implementing and evaluating student programs, learning outcomes and training modules.
  • Strong presentation, communication and organizational skills required.
  • Experience in dealing with critical/emergency incidents.
  • Knowledge of, and experience creating curriculum based on Student and Leadership development theory.
  • Knowledge of universal design theories and delivery.
  • Awareness of best practices in the field.
  • Budget and finance knowledge and experience
