Digital Lifestyle Intern, Corus Entertainment
We’re looking for superstar interns to support our editorial staff on Corus Entertainment’s lifestyle sites: Food Network Canada, HGTV Canada, Complex Canada and Slice. Throughout this internship, you will be immersed in the day-to-day editorial process, learn how original content is planned and produced and better understand strategies for running successful lifestyle websites.
Corus is a driving force in the media industry with a diverse portfolio of strong brands that entertain and inform audiences through great storytelling and compelling content, reaching millions of people around the world every day.
In this Digital Editorial role, you be responsible for:
- Assisting editors with story research: pitch, edit, and write as needed
- Identifying trending topics for coverage, and contributing to brainstorming and content planning
- Sourcing and cropping images for content features
- Editing and building content in our content management systems
- Learning and applying SEO to content
- Assisting with other editorial duties as required
You will learn:
- Best practices for writing, editing and producing digital lifestyle content
- Ability to cleanly publish multiple pieces of content daily in content management systems
- Gain experience from lifestyle editors and interacting with freelance writers
- Strategies for content planning for digital sites and SEO
- How to analyze and interpret digital metrics, analytics and audiences
- Work collaboratively with digital, social, marketing and sales teams across a large Canadian broadcast company
*Please note this is a paid internship with an honorarium.
Our ideal candidates will:
- Currently be enrolled in a full-time journalism, media, communications or marketing program in Canada
- Be familiar with our brands and passionate about lifestyle content
- Have strong interest working in a digital publishing and production environment, eager to learn the process of content planning, writing, editing and producing digital editorial content
- Be familiar with digital publishing platforms, photo editing software (Photoshop) and Canadian Press style
- Be a self-starter with exceptional organizational, verbal and written communication skills
- Showcase a strong understanding of audience engagement in a digital environment
- Have a portfolio (published or otherwise) that demonstrates an understanding of the type of content that appeals to and engages online users
- Have knowledge of or interest in gaining an understanding of analytics, including Google Analytics, YouTube Analytics and Omniture
- Demonstrates the ability to work in a rapidly changing, dynamic environment, independently and as part of a team
- Showcase a passion for all lifestyle content – broadcast, digital and social
