Your key responsibilities will include conducting research on the collection, digitizing Korean objects and photographs within our Library and Archive collections, assisting in managing new acquisitions, including a significant donation of a Korean knot collection, and rehousing objects from offsite storage. Furthermore, you will support the curator with Korean programs in the gallery. You will gain hands-on training in using The Museum System (TMS) and acquire valuable daily experience in museum operations. Additionally, this position presents an excellent networking opportunity within the museum and academic fields, opening doors to future career pathways in art and culture.RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the curator and collection specialist by photographing objects from the Korean collections that are currently undocumented in The Museum System (TMS).
- Aid the Collection Specialist in rehousing objects within the Korean Collections to ensure their preservation and accessibility.
- Collaborate with the curator and collection specialist in cataloging and conducting research on the maedeup (Korean knots) collection, as well as on photography and postcard collections of Korean objects.
- Assist the curator in researching designated works from the Korean Collection, in addition to other works as assigned.
- Support the curator in facilitating programs related to Korean culture and arts, enhancing public engagement and understanding.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Open to senior undergraduates, recent university graduates, or currently enrolled graduate students.
- Desirable familiarity with the Korean language, art history, or history.
- Preferred knowledge and experience in the proper handling of artworks and in photographing objects.
- Experience with or an understanding of collection database programs and adherence to database standards is advantageous.
- Exceptional organizational, interpersonal, and research skills.
- Strong attention to detail and proficient computer skills.
