Join our Group Benefits Technology Leadership Team!

How will you contribute:

Reporting to the VP, Head of Group Benefits (GB) Technology you will own the roadmap and day-to-day delivery for GB Experience value stream. You will have accountability for leading the development and execution of key digital properties including the Plan Member site, Plan Administrator site, GB Mobile application, and Health platform; delivering on our ambition to become a digital customer leader.

Leading a high caliber team of technology professionals and champion technology thought leadership to drive organizational change which are critical to the successful delivery of the overall GB Technology Strategy. Provide direction, oversight & program leadership to the GB Experience technology teams ensuring timely and efficient deployment of applications, mitigating technical debt, and ensuring systems are safe, sound, and secure. This role will have a thorough understanding of the various the digital product roadmap and will work collaboratively with the product team.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Deliver on Technology specific financial and Strategic Cost Management (SCM) targets.
  • Partner with GB Product Ownership to develop technology roadmaps to deliver on business strategy and market requirements.
  • Represent and lead the development, testing, implementation, and delivery of large-scale technology solutions with adherence to Global Strategy standards and accountable for Key Performance & Key Risk Indicators as well as Outcomes and Results.
  • With input from business leaders and Value Stream Partners, lead the prioritization of work efforts within, and across, Value Streams while ensuring technical priorities are given equal focus keeping systems safe, sound, and secure
  • Recruit, retain and empower an impactful technology team that is highly engaged, proactive and business outcome focused.
  • Model our Manulife values to drive the ongoing change required to evolve Canadian Technology organization; develop and drive a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.
  • Manage talent across the team for development and succession and rotate expertise throughout the team.
  • Manage key vendor relationships and contracts.
  • Achieve and sustain employee engagement scores.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of hands-on technology leadership experience developing and driving technology strategies for large scale organizations.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, management of information systems or equivalent experience.
  • A high degree of business insight in the GB operations or financial services function, in addition to, demonstrated leadership experience, operating in a multi-location environment with the ability to work with multiple collaborators across all levels of the organization.
  • Shown leadership skills, along with strong program and project management capabilities and experience leading engineering teams in a diverse, highly regulated, marketing focused growth business.
  • Strong communication skills, including ability to translate complex technical issues into fundamental concepts coupled with highly effective influencing skills.
  • Strong relationship building skills to build effective working relationships with Business Units and Global teams.
  • Strong vendor management experience and skills with demonstrated success establishing long-term cost-effective partnerships.
  • Ability to build a progressive technical team that drives and enable changes.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to deliver actionable recommendations that drive business and technical value. Ability to translate analyses using mediums to drive comprehensible recommendations (e.g.: dashboards, graphics, summaries, etc.)
  • Skilled player-coach able to foster a high-performance culture and develop individuals to stretch their competencies.

Other Technical Competencies:

  • 7+ years of prior full stack experience including JavaScript, React & Redux for application development and Node.js, GraphQL, and Apollo for microservice service development.
  • Experience with Restful API development.
  • Experience in C#.Net and/or JAVA J2EE to support, integrate and/or upgrades of our other applications.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Kubernetes Service required.
  • Experience managing work within a DevOps environment, including Build tools, CI/CD Pipelines, Source Control is required. Tools include Jenkins, SonarQube, Snyk, Github.
  • Experience with CosmosDB or NoSQL database is a plus.

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between $123,400.00 CAD – $229,300.00 CAD
