The Marketing & Communications team is focused on building a distinct, differentiated brand to attract and retain top talent and partners. This also involves engaging our diverse global workforce through our intranet, corporate events and employee communications.
Who you’ll work with
You will be part of a small but agile team and work closely with colleagues across our global offices. You will work out of our Toronto office on a hybrid basis.
What you’ll do
As a Communications & Events intern, you will get hands-on experience as part of our Internal Communications team, developing content and delivering events that engages and inspires our workforce.
A key project involves work to migrate our existing intranet pages and content to a new, innovative platform, and supporting our plans to introduce it to employees and drive usage and engagement. You’ll also support our Events Specialist to coordinate a variety of internal and external events at Ontario Teachers’. In addition, you will get exposure to other facets of marketing and communications, including external communications, media relations and thought leadership, digital marketing, creative services and brand and content strategy.
Day-to-day, you will tackle a wide range of tasks and responsibilities including (but not limited to):
Intranet migration
- Assisting in the execution and management of our intranet migration plan
- Partnering with content owners to ensure the accurate and efficient transfer of information to the new platform
- Assisting with the testing, quality assurance and gathering feedback, and addressing any issues or discrepancies
- Contributing to the development of training materials and communications to support employees in adapting to the new intranet environment
- Inputting on measurement standards and reporting processes for the new intranet
Events
- Support the planning and execution of in-house events, contests and initiatives, including participating in brainstorming/ideation, and updating critical paths, communications plans and event slide decks
- Maintaining a robust vendor/supplier, venue, and speaker database
- Managing invitations and RSVP lists and providing event execution support
- Partnering with our creative team and external vendors to deliver on-brand event materials and signage
- Developing and distributing surveys and analyzing attendee feedback
General communications
- Contributing to the development of communications materials, and distribution across various channels
- Researching into emerging issues and trends
- Performing other duties as assigned and contribute to other initiatives as needed
What you’ll need
We’re looking for candidates with:
- A passion for communications, events, marketing, or content management
- Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal
- Keen attention to detail
- Project and time management skills
- A curiosity about industry best practices and trends
- The ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and take initiative when needed
- An openness to experiment and try new ways of doing things
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint (experience with ChatGPT is a bonus!)
You must be enrolled in a co-op program or returning back to your studies after the work term is completed.
