You will be surrounded by others with the same curiosity, drive, and passion for books you will bring to this role.We’re looking for a career-focused Insights & Analytics Intern to join our team.What you’ll do:You will play a critical role in contributing to our Insights & Analytics team’s complex and dynamic work. You’ll indulge your curiosity as you research and analyze data, then leverage technology and new tools to synthesize and communicate your insights to the rest of the team and members of senior leadership.What you can expect from your internship experience:You will gain valuable experience in the industry, make connections, and build relationships with teams across our company. You will become an expert in using a variety of analytics tools and applications. You might learn how to write basic Structured Query Language (SQL) or how to parse complex signals in social media data, all while working alongside a cohort of other interns, and playing a part in better understanding the Canadian book market and its readers. Through on-the-job learning, you will develop and gain new skills that will be valuable to you in this role and in the future.Our interns are paid $20.00 per hour and work 35 hours per week. You will be one of a group of interns working in various functions across the business. Like all our employees, you will participate in the life of our company (this includes the opportunity to attend company-wide gatherings, join the office book club, participate in educational sessions with industry experts, etc.), and you’ll benefit from perks including a discount on books ordered through our online store.Competencies and knowledge you’ll bring to this role, and continue to build:Experience finding, interrogating, and summarizing consumer trends with a focus on finding actionable insights. You should expect to get comfortable navigating sources ranging from point-of-sale data to web stats to scientific research papersExcellent communication and presentation skills and the ability to craft stories with data using effective visualizations using tools such as Power BI, Excel, and Power PointAbility to find and provide a concise summary of market trends and business performanceKnowledge of or experience using Google Trends and / or social listening tools (e.g. Brandwatch) to conduct secondary consumer research on trendsExperience with programming languages like Structured Query Language (SQL) or Python or R considered a plus, though not requiredAn inclusive approach, supported by cultural competency and a proven ability to collaborate with people from across a wide range of diverse backgroundsProficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or equivalent and collaborative digital tools, including, Asana, Google Docs, Teams, etc.Enhanced knowledge, awareness, and experience with the culture and history of any community that has faced marginalization is considered a plusAnd of course, a love for books!Interested candidates should apply with their cover letter and resume by November 17, 2024.
