- Become a trusted advisor to our tech clients and play a role as a partner in their growth journey, with a particular focus on working with pre-seed and seed stage tech startups
- Provide financial solutions, strategic advice, as well as initiate introductions to people or businesses that can help our clients.
- Apply a continuous-improvement approach to delivering a superior client experience.
- Create deep and meaningful relationships with our clients, and prospective clients, ensuring their needs are prioritized at all times – whether they’re a startup, scale up, entrepreneur or venture capitalist.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships in the startup ecosystem in the Ottawa, as well as Ontario North and East regions, with key players in the ecosystem, including accelerators, incubators, universities, VC funds, economic development institutions, etc.
What do you need to succeed?
Must-have
- Passion for the tech sector: you want to play a role in Canada’s innovation economy.
- Excitement for trying new things: RBCx is building an end-to-end platform complete with capital and non-capital solutions to help our clients thrive. We will forever be building, launching new products, and expanding our capabilities, and being able to embrace a constant state of improvement and innovation will be paramount.
- Technical capability: you are comfortable with data modeling and financial analysis, as well as marketing initiatives, startup frameworks and business models,
- High level of empathy for the founders and startups we work with, and for the ever-changing unknown: a tech company needs can change often – and we need you to be comfortable with throwing plans out the window and going back to the drawing board when needed.
- Some banking or financial analysis experience: ideally 1-2 years in commercial lending or business banking, or at a VC fund, or in a similar analytical role/capacity
- Understanding and thorough knowledge of the technology and innovation startup ecosystem in Ottawa, as well as Ontario North & East regions, and Canada and the US broadly, as well as a an understanding of the startup company lifecycle journey, with a focus on accelerator/incubator startup creation through to pre-seed/seed stage and Series A venture capital raise
Nice-to-have
- You may have been in the trenches before: experience as an entrepreneur, launching a business, working in a start-up, or advising/mentoring and working with early stage tech startups at an accelerator, incubator, or innovation hub, and/or previously working at a venture capital fund
- You may have academic exposure through a post-secondary diploma/degree in commerce or business administration, or a sciences related degree and/or related experience.
- This isn’t your first time in a business development and/or client relationship management role.
