Role:
Oversee the Product Specialists, Category Analysts and Digital Product Content Manager in the execution of the Category management process with selecting, negotiating, implementing, and monitoring progress on strategic National Vendors & categories to drive financial results across all Sites/Regions on a national level. Maintaining merchandising data, item attributes, item enrichment, lotting (grouping of products), Partnership Growth Management programs, EI (earned income) data base and focus environmental Social Governance. Continuously provide support and collaboration to field regional merchandising (Sites and Regions) in the areas of price integrity, product knowledge, Sysco Brand development, vendor strategies and market insights.
Role Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of Product Specialists, Analysts and Digital Product Content team. Manage and be actively involved with coaching, mentoring, career development, training, and performance management of the team.
  • Responsible for and leading/development of lotting process on all products (new, sourced, Sysco Brand, leading National Brand, Proprietary product etc.)
  • Lead Product Specialist team to understand current assortment and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Responsible to ensure all digital product content is maintained on current and new product listings
  • Oversee collection of required Digital Product content
  • Enforce GS1 (food service industry standardized product info depository) compliance with all vendors
  • Collaborate with GS1 on current and future initiatives
  • Leading meetings with Revolution vendors on a one and one base to review portfolio of products related to digital product content
  • Responsible for the merchandising program implementation and maintenance in conjunction with Master Data Management team
  • Ensure proper renewals and tracking of vendor programs and data base development through Category Analytics team.
  • Merchandising Lead in our Corporate Social Responsibility and Environmental Social Governance and implementing any new requirements internally and with our vendors
  • Analysis of category data and insights, develop strategies, fact pacts and communicate with internal and external business partners in conjunction with Category Managers.
  • Partner with Category Managers ongoing execution of 6 step Category Management process (Market Insights, Category Strategy, Optimal Assortment-Lotting, Negotiating/Recommendation, Implementation & Tailored Selling).
  • Collaborate with Sourcing team to execute optimal supplier strategies.
  • Complies with Sysco’s Food Safety Policy and procedures to ensure food safety, quality and legality requirements are met.
  • Understands both the economic and cultural value that a safe organization with minimal environmental impact brings to an organization.
  • Is willing to drive Environmental, Health and Safety performance by providing necessary resources and holding their team accountable to complying with EHS programs, policies, and requirements.

Qualifications/Skills/Job Requirements (About you):

  • Minimum of seven (7) years Merchandising/Category Management experience in retail or foodservice.
  • College diploma in a related field acceptable if in conjunction with work experience.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, Hospitality, Marketing, or related field preferred.
  • MBA an asset.
  • Strong written & verbal communication skills; ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong negotiation, organizational, decision making and presentation skills.
  • High degree of integrity and accountability; handles significant amount of proprietary information and process. Trust is essential.
  • Capable of indirectly leading, must have the ability to look for innovation and innovative approaches, opportunities and identify solutions for complex or unique problems.
  • Equally adept at working independently with little direction as working on team environment. Role requires flexibility in working style.
  • Ability to convey complicated, detailed information in a concise and effective manner to internal and external stakeholders, at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to maintain stable performance under pressure or opposition, i.e. conflicts/ambiguity and during negotiations.
  • Intermediate or Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
  • Valid driver’s license with access to a vehicle may be required as there is some ad-hoc travel
