They are headquartered in Toronto, where they also manufacture their products to be installed across North America in construction, industrial and infrastructure applications primarily.Job Description:The Design Engineer is part of an Engineering team of 27 who are responsible for designing and developing purpose-built systems that meet project specific requirements. The team includes Junior, Intermediate and Senior Engineers. Due to growth, they are seeking to add a Senior Design Engineer.Duties and responsibilities include:Start from customer specifications and RFQs to design/engineering works to review and production. As a mechanical design engineer, you will be drafting many of these design drawings, but also reviewing and approving shop drawings and production drawings as you progress in seniority. With your strong CAD skills and experience in custom engineered solutions, you’ll be working closely with Project Managers, senior engineers and at times the business development team to ensure the project design is consistent with what was sold and the project stays on budget. Periodically, you’ll be providing technical assistance to the sales and business development teams during the proposal and estimation phase to help the company minimize its risk exposures and ensure we deliver the best product at the best possible price.Qualification Requirements:
- Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Civil Engineering.
- At least 10 to 15 years of successful relevant experience in custom machine design (such as bulk material handling systems/mining/construction machinery or other similar systems.)
- Strong working knowledge and demonstrable capability of Solidworks, AutoCAD 2D and MS Office products as translated in drawing/drafting skills
- Must be capable of design work, both modifications of standard products and engaging in new product design/development for projects.
- Demonstrable ability to perform algebraic calculations for weight, force, moment, volume, statics, FBDs, to apply those to drawings, and “size” components and parts
- Strong capability in conceptualizing kinematic/dynamic solutions
- Strong cross functional skills with understanding and engineering/designing electro-mechanical and pneumatic/hydraulic systems integration
- Good understanding of welding symbols, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T), tolerance stack up analysis, to complete sketches, layout drawings, production/working level drawings with fabrication
- Good understanding of custom design work of large-scale steel and aluminum fabricated machines, factory/industrial settings, civil and large infrastructure, field experience in construction, installation or related work, are aware of building codes, structural codes
- Capable of performing structural calculations and analysis following ANSI/AISC 360 and/or Canadian equivalents of steel and aluminum structural designs i.e. CSA-16, CSA S157
- Strong capability in determining steel and aluminum welding calculations and requirements (i.e. AWS D1.1/D1.2, CSA W47/59, etc.)
- Strong attention to detail
- Able to complete hand calculations to justify design development.
- Fluency in English is a mandatory requirement.
