Job description: Are you looking for a role where you will be responsible for projects and assignments related to lifecycle strategies for the management of all types of waste at CNL-operated sites? - Developing strategic documents and technical plans for managing nuclear liabilities:
- Developing all-encompassing strategic plans, including identifying funding requirements under the ongoing stewardship of the Liability Cost Estimate (LCE).
- Researching domestic and international benchmarks to support the development of options evaluations, cost-benefit analyses, Best Available Techniques (BATs) and Relevant Good Practices for legacy waste management.
- Collaboratively developing plans that focus on safe, compliant and effective management of nuclear liabilities while keeping an eye on the “big picture” of the Fuel Program’s mission.
- Supporting technical planning for discrete projects and programs of work:
- Providing subject-matter expertise toward developing detailed Project Plans that incorporate technical and business-related concerns, such as Project Management Plans, Work Plans, Reports and Strategy Documents.
- Overseeing the work of subcontract resources in developing and completing technical deliverables.
- Supporting projects to plan and execute work under the Integrated Work Control Process.
- Supporting the strategy-to-implementation interface, with support for execution phases:
- Interfacing with planning and technical staff in other parts of CNL to meet CRL needs coherently and integratedly.
- Supporting documentation development for the Gating and Sanctioning Process as projects move from identification through execution and close-out.
- Working with stakeholders internal to CNL to identify and leverage opportunities for technical partnerships and collaboration.
- Performing other functions/duties in support of Waste Strategy Program or broader Integrated Waste and Fuel Programs objectives, in alignment with the documented expectations of the assigned level as defined in the approved CRPEG Collective Agreement.

What we are looking for:
- Education
- Bachelors (Honours) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization.
- Experience
- Minimum of three to five years experience in radioactive waste management, nuclear decommissioning and/or environmental remediation.
- Experience in collecting, analyzing, and organizing complex data sets to make recommendations based on experience, industry best practices and/or innovative approaches.
- Experience in planning and execution of environmental remediation management projects, preferably including planning for the management of legacy wastes.
- Experience resolving complex technical challenges from both a strategic and execution-level perspective.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Excellent written communication skills with a proven history of producing high-quality technical documents such as those required to support Environmental Remediation Management (ERM) submissions to various internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment, with stakeholders from across a large-scale organization.
- Experience understanding the interaction of planning, execution and close-out of multi-year projects.
- Demonstrated understanding of the entire lifecycle of radioactive waste management, preferably with experience with:
- All three classes of radioactive waste (Low-Level, Intermediate-Level, and High-Level)
- All stages of the waste lifecycle (planning, characterization, generation, processing, packaging, transportation, storage, and disposal)
- Understanding of the Canadian nuclear industry, including the CNSC regulations and key projects/approaches that are being employed by partner organizations (such as the NWMO).
- Understanding of project management principles is an asset.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat’s “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
- Occasional field for walk-downs or support of fieldwork.
- Minimal physical demands are associated with the everyday tasks of this job. (General expectation of >90% office-based, although specific project or developmental assignments may involve more fieldwork.)
- This position may occasionally require extended days and/or outside standard working hours (e.g., evenings or weekends) to support high-priority operations activities.

Location:CNL works with employees across our Canadian locations to enable remote work when possible.
