From long-range covert surveillance missions to search and rescue operations, our MX-series systems, and the mission systems solutions they are a part of, produce stabilized high-magnification electro1-optical and infrared images from airborne, marine and ground based platforms, enabling our customers to see first and act first.Job Description:The Opto-Mechanical Engineering department at L3 WESCAM – Don Mills Operations is looking for an intern student to work as a junior engineer on hands-on projects related to one of our core technologies: Imaging Systems. You will be paired with a senior member of the team and conduct various testing, analyses and be involved in design activities. The team offers a supportive learning environment where you will be provided with as much challenge as you are willing to undertake.   • Test complex precision mechanics and Opto-Mechanical assemblies, including visible and infrared imaging lenses.
  • Develop advanced test set-up to measure the performance of optical and electro-mechanical systems
  • Develop and implement new automation capabilities
  • Generate advanced data analyses to support senior Opto-Mechanical Design Engineers
  • Evaluate state-of-the-art commercial technologies and identify potential suppliers for integration into WESCAM products.
  • Support design engineers in the development of new Opto-Mechanical assemblies
  • Support to Production and test tooling design
  • Rigorously follow existing Mechanical Engineering design practices, processes and standards.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Bachelors or Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics or Physics or related field
  • Must be able to complete a 16 month Co-Op term with 12 month terms occasionally being available
  • Knowledge of Mechanical Engineering, Precision Mechanics and Opto-Mechanical design principles
  • Knowledge of Mechanical CAD software, Solidworks preferred
  • Knowledge of optical design software such as Oslo, CodeV or Zemax an asset
  • Experience with Matlab or a similar software package
  • Knowledge of electro-mechanical drive design principles
  • Knowledge of materials science (corrosion, composites, surface coating and conversion)
  • Proficient in mechanics or optics lab environments
  • Knowledge of basic optics principles an asset:
  • Geometrical Optics, Imaging, Lens Design
  • Radiometry
  • Electro-magnetic waves propagation
  • Thin-film optical coatings
