For more information visit our website:About the PositionWe are seeking a motivated Intern to join our Sustainable and Community Development consulting team in Ottawa, ON. This paid, full-time position will start in October 2024 for the duration of 4 months with the possibility of extension. Being co-located with our team in Ottawa is beneficial but not mandated.Interns work across the firm on a variety of research, writing and analytical assignments related to sustainability, natural resource management, and social performance. This provides them with the opportunity to learn about a range of services ERM provides and gives them exposure to different areas of practice.Interns work with a manager who will introduce them to ERM, help identify their goals and review their performance on a regular basis. As part of the team, interns participate in the ERM Academy (i.e. internal training sessions on essential consulting skills, health and safety, and other skills) and are provided other opportunities for learning.ResponsibilitiesAs an intern your responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
- Conducting research and synthesizing findings for clients.
- Drafting, proof-reading, and formatting reports and presentations.
- Assisting with designing, planning, delivering and reporting on meetings, workshops and stakeholder engagement sessions.
- Supporting marketing and business development initiatives by conducting research on market trends and client needs and preparing marketing materials.
Skills and AttributesERM is looking for individuals who demonstrate:
- Initiative as demonstrated by a willingness to take on new tasks, promote new initiatives and seek clarification where necessary (i.e. regarding assigned tasks).
- An ability to conduct research (e.g. web-based, literature, surveys and/or interviews), analyze complex data and present results in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills, to develop a professional network within ERM and with clients.
- Experience working both independently and as a team, with time management and organizational skills.
- Professional conduct (i.e. ability to adhere to an organization’s code of conduct and interact with colleagues and clients in a respectful manner).
- Knowledge of natural resource management, Canada’s history and reconciliation with Indigenous peoples, context shaping sustainable and community development in Canada’s north, community engagement, and/or resource development (i.e., either through relevant University education or work experience)
The following skills and experience would also be an asset:
- Previous experience managing projects, facilitating groups, or conducting stakeholder engagement.
- Working knowledge of French.
