Our Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering (TPTE) group provides comprehensive planning, design, and engineering services and we have an immediate opening for an intermediate transportation planner/engineer to be an integral part of our team. As a Transportation Planner/Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of transportation projects. While working as a technical team member, you may provide immediate supervision and guidance to junior employees, assigning tasks, checking work at frequent intervals for accuracy and completeness, and maintaining tasks’ schedule and budget with high-level supervision of an assigned senior staff or the TPTE lead. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver who takes initiative with demonstrated knowledge and experience in engineering and planning projects, understanding of regulatory requirements, excellent communication skills including technical writing and presentation skills, and demonstrated experience with transportation planning, data analysis and modelling.Your Key ResponsibilitiesResponsible for planning, conducting and coordinating technical aspects of assigned projects and tasksUses knowledge of the general and technical concepts of transportation planning, transportation modelling and traffic engineeringConducts transportation planning and traffic analyses, with an emphasis on contributing in traffic engineering and transportation modelling capacityObtains traffic, GIS and land use data, prepares technical reports, performs calculations, and conducts various transportation studiesCoordinates with clients, regulatory/resource agencies, and local governmentsProvides initial quality assurance and quality control for technical products to ensure technical accurateness and regulatory compliancePrepares technical reports and memorandums for traffic impact studies, parking studies, transportation and transit planning studies, feasibility studies, environmental assessment studies and etc.Assists in coordinating with clients/consultants in resolving technical project issues, presenting reports and designs, and providing service to meet client’s goalsPerforms due diligence and research on projects as required to provide the background information to start a new projectAssists with the preparation of proposals, project reporting and other marketing endeavorsPerforms other duties of a similar nature and level as assignedMinimum 5 years of experience as a transportation planner/ traffic engineer or related jobs working on traffic impact studies, environmental assessment studies or similar tasks. A minimum of two years Canadian experience will be an assetAbility to solve complex problems using sound professional judgment, creativity, and innovationStrong knowledge of traffic engineering concepts including intersection operational analysis and signalized intersections and professional experience with Synchro, ARCADY, SIDRA, and similar intersection analysis softwareStrong knowledge of provincial and municipal legal requirements, and design/planning procedures in relevant jurisdictionsExperience in managing small projects and tasksExperience working on road safety studies and projects.Ability to work independently with high-level direction and supervision provided as needed based on the complexity of the assignment(s).Demonstrate an ability to work within established timelines, and project budgetsTake initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the teamWorking knowledge and experience with transportation demand forecasting and simulation modelling software packages such as EMME, VISUM, Aimsun or VISSIM and calibration and validation methodologies would be considered an assetProficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and experience with Access and MS ProjectHighly motivated and willing to take on new challenges and learn new skillsDemonstrated ability to perform individually or as a team member with effective time management skills and able to work on multi tasks simultaneouslyStrong analytical and communication skills including both technical writing and oral communicationSkills and Knowledge in transit planning, active transportation planning, pedestrian modelling (VISWALK or Legion) and rail modelling would be an assetWorking knowledge of TAC and Ontario municipal geometric design standards is beneficialProgramming and scripting skills would be a great assetPossess a collaborative attitude in working with other members of a transportation team, sub consultants and contractors.Knowledge of using GIS and AutoCAD will be an asset.Municipal experience will be an asset.Education and ExperienceBachelor’s degree or equivalent in Planning, Engineering, or related fields. Master’s degree will be an asset.Ideal candidate shall have an active P.Eng. or RPP certificate or will be able to obtain it in short time with minimum of 5 years of related experience.RSP certification or ability to obtain in it short time will be an asset.TPTE team uses a hybrid working environment. Some travel may be required, such as site visits, delivering plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients or to attend meetings.
