Your opportunity:

Within DUA, Advancement Communications and Marketing (ACM) provides strategic planning, creative development and production support for central and divisional fundraising and alumni relations activities. Under the general supervision of the Executive Director, Digital Marketing and Communications, the Web Developer is responsible for developing, deploying and maintaining digital platforms, related systems and email communications in support of the alumni and donor engagement activities.

The role is at the forefront of web development projects, leveraging a comprehensive understanding of front-end technologies like JavaScript, jQuery, Vue.js, CSS, Bootstrap and HTML. In addition, the role develops and maintains proprietary web applications using Laravel and MySQL at the backend.

The Web Developer plays a pivotal role in the conceptualization of digital platforms, working alongside digital strategies to develop business and technical requirements that meet stakeholder needs and objectives. The role is responsible for executing the front and back-end build of digital properties to meet those objectives. This role works with vendors, other web developers, designers and Information Management team members to ensure that platforms are built in accordance with accessibility and safety standards.

The Web Developer supports the ongoing management and maintenance of existing digital properties including the University’s donate platform and website ecosystem. They support other web developers with training, documentation and review of code to ensure accuracy, consistency and standards are met. In addition, the Web Developer provides direct technical support and guidance to a wide variety of stakeholders across the university.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Writing complex technical code
  • Designing, testing, and modifying programming code
  • Analyzing user needs and business processes to create programming solutions
  • Analyzing and writing programming code structures based on user requirements
  • Evaluating programming code to ensure it has validity, compatibility, and that it meets appropriate standards
  • Developing technical application implementation plans
  • Creating complex and technical documentation and user support guides
  • Training end-users on procedures and the use of supported IT systems

Essential Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, web development or related field, formal training in web development or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum four years in a website development and technical support role for a large organization.
  • Experience coding custom themes from scratch in WordPress using Gutenberg Blocks
  • Experience and understanding of database systems such as MySQL and the ability to design schemas for small applications
  • Proficient in developing web applications with a deep grasp of PHP.
  • Experience with Git or similar source control
  • Demonstrated experience in Unit testing using Laravel as well as manual/Automated testing
  • Experience with Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Fireworks, Adobe Flash, and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience in the design and development to WCAG 2.0 Level 2 standard as per AODA Communications and Information Standards
  • Experience in pulling reports for Google Analytics and setting up dashboards on the Looker Studio
  • Experience developing technical requirements for complex digital projects based on stakeholder requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of front-end technologies, including JavaScript, jQuery, Vue.js, CSS, Bootstrap, and HTML.
  • Fluent in PHP, WordPress.
  • Understanding of software development lifecycle and principles and apply them in building small-scale applications using Laravel and Vue.js
  • Well-versed in utilizing MVC-based frameworks like Laravel at backend and Vue.js at front-end.
  • Well versed with REST based API’s and knowledge of Luminate Online’s donation API.
  • Thorough understanding of web-based client/server technologies in a LAMP environment.
  • Database design knowledge and construction skills using MySQL, Schema creation in Laravel.
  • Deep knowledge of Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Looker Studio.
  • Ability to provide recommendations for new technologies and review proposed tools in comparison to defined requirements
