Reporting to our Chief Technology Officer, the Vice President of Software Engineering – Digital Technology will be responsible for building a best-in-class eCommerce shopping platform allowing our members to shop in more ways (web, apps, voice) and receive groceries when and how they want it. You will leverage an ‘App-First’ strategy. You will ensure that our ecommerce platforms and infrastructure are built with the best industry practices and are able to scale with the exponential growth of our customer base. You will lead, and grow, a talented software engineering team consisting of multi-disciplined Software Developers. You will be a champion of continuous improvement, driving velocity, innovation and scale. You will work closely with Product Owners, User Experience & Design, Infrastructure, Enterprise Technology and Marketing teams to translate our customer needs into fantastic digital products that will scale to meet their growing demand accessed via a wide spectrum of devices and browsers.
Our evolving technology stack leverages modern JS (VueJS, React), Php, NodeJS, MySQL, Akeneo for Catalog, hosted on GCP, Dynamics 365 for ERP and integrates with many SaaS services. We are looking for a hands-on technical leader with a track record of managing high scale, consumer facing digital experiences. You’re not just a people manager. We’re building a Technology team from the ground up so we need a Technology leader who doesn’t mind rolling up their sleeves and dive deep into the details on business, operations and engineering and have a thorough knowledge of what it takes to develop scalable, extensible technology
Business & Technology Strategy, Roadmap & Execution
Partner with key executives, sponsors and product owners as a trusted technology advisor with a focus on achieving business outcomes and co-create our eCommerce product roadmap Ensure consistent and timely delivery of new features while driving velocity, predictability and quality
Plan and manage multiple parallel projects and communicate project issues and status in a concise and accurate manner to executives and stakeholders
Work with the product management team to continuously improve our product development methodologies Ensure effective ownership and execution in a bimodal environment
Keep abreast of industry and technology trends to inform and adjust the strategy
Support the short-term and long-term financial and operational goals of the company by supporting successful delivery of our eCommerce product initiatives
Translate emerging business requirements into eCommerce Product initiatives that yield measurable business outcomes
Work closely with the Product Owners and Product Team, Marketing, and UX/UI to build the best-in-class user experience
Provide escalation management, anticipate and make trade-offs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints
Talent Management
Build best in class digital experience at Goodfood by leading a high performing technology team in an agile development environment that values releasing often, testing and iterating
Develop, recruit and retain, top engineering talent
Provide technical direction, work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach Provide leadership to develop and motivate a high performing team
Negotiate resolution of conflicting priorities to establish resource and task plan that supports the department and corporate objectives
Set and measure performance objectives and provides regular one-on-one feedback to all members of the team Build a clear and defined succession plan for management within the team
Coach and mentor team leaders and team members, provides guidance in the resolution of critical issues that may impact established service levels or service expectations
Manage the department through clear communication, expectations, timelines and performance metrics

Ensure effective management oversight of vendors and consultants providing project and operations support to our Digital deliverables
Inclusive leader who is data driven and collaborates with multiple business and technical teams to define and deliver complex customer facing solutions
KPis/Metrics/Financials
Develop relevant metrics, measures and publishes the performance of the services provided and enable continuous improvement activities in collaboration with peer groups
Partner with Data & Insights and Marketing and the Product Owners to deliver key metrics
Provide input to the Financial and Capital Planning processes as well as technology impacts to the department
Works as a part of the IT leadership team on the Software Engineering budget, direction, assuring process, people and technology alignment.
Forecast, analyze and Software Engineering budget, ensuring project managers are effectively executing on the projects to deliver the Product Roadmap
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science required, advanced degree preferred
10+ years of progressive experience including at least one in a senior management or director level role preferably in a high-volume, complex, consumer facing eCommerce environment
7+ years of experience in understanding of all aspects of software engineering, including coding, architecture and design
5+ years of experience taking complex projects from initial concept through final launch including web, mobile and distributed systems
Demonstrated experience building Web, Mobile, Voice, Cloud Native, Product Search, Recommendation Engine, Catalog, and payment and credit card processing services especially as they relate to eCommerce
Strong interpersonal skills including ability to work in a cross-functional environment and communicate with all levels of the organization
Proven team leadership skills including experience in hiring, engaging, empowering, and coaching team members and a history of building high performance development teams
Highly collaborative with well-developed customer relationship management skills and ability to focus on multiple customers’ needs simultaneously, prioritize and multitask in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders
Experience selecting and integrating open source, Saas products and Continuous Delivery technologies
Excellent understanding of the Agile and Scrum methodologies
Experience driving continuous improvement
Experience in building data pipelines and leveraging advanced Machine Learning in eCommerce setting is an asset
Bilingualism (French – English) is an asset
