Job description: JOB SUMMARY:The Child Life Specialist is responsible for the overall leadership and co-ordination of the Child Life Services Program designed to meet the needs of all pediatric patients and families. The primary goal is the development of programs and services that focus on in-patient and outpatient (including the metabolic clinic) needs and provide and promote community linkages and support. The Child Life Specialist complies with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards for the hospital and is proactive in promoting a safe work environment. The incumbent is responsible for delivery of care consistent with the vision and values of the hospital and the standards of relevant professional organizations.QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION:Bachelors degree in Child Development, Psychology, Education or related degree – required

  • Completion of a 480 hour internship under the supervision of a Certified Child Life Specialist – required
  • Child Life certification or eligible (as defined by the Child Life Council) to sit for Child Life exam within one year of hire – required
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with children in a healthcare setting
  • Leadership experience is an asset
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrates ability in problem solving, analytical skills and creative thinking
  • Demonstrates excellent organizational skills
  • Commitment to standards of excellence and the ability to participate in quality improvement initiatives/programs
  • Ability to work effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary team.
  • General good health and a level of fitness appropriate to the demands of the position.
  • French language skills an asset
