We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to contribute to the developing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of electrical power systems! • Being assigned as a design job leader, including job management and execution oversight.
• Providing job updates and status reports to management.
• Guiding the work of several professional engineers and technologists, coordinating schedules and assigning tasks to reach an overall objective within cost, quality and time requirements.
• Providing mentorship and technical oversight to junior staff.
• Designing of retrofits and modifications to existing electrical engineering systems.
• Designing of electrical distribution systems, medium and low voltage (Class 1 through Class IV) power supply systems, alarm systems, lighting systems etc.
• Understanding specifications of technical components for electrical systems.
• Implementing continuous improvement strategies and opportunities for design optimization.
• Recognizing design risks and proactively tackling potential challenges.
• Staying updated on emerging technologies and industry trends to encourage innovation.
• Spearheading initiatives for design optimization, cost reduction, and product enhancements
• Performing electrical power studies (e.g. load flow, short circuit, coordination and arc flash) using power studies software (preferably ETAP).
• Preparing design documentation, including concept reports, design requirements, design descriptions, design manuals, design guides, technical specifications, and technical notes.
• Providing engineering support during the construction, installation and commissioning project phases.
• Being a customer liaison.
• Providing subject matter expert review and acceptance of designs prepared by outside agencies.
• Providing the Design Authority oversight for Electrical engineering projects at the Chalk River site.
• Developing engineering specifications and standards facilitates a consistent design approach.
• Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:

• Education

• At a minimum, a Bachelor’s degree (honours) in engineering or applied science, specializing in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, from an accredited university of recognized standing.
• P.Eng. A license is required.
• Experience

• At a minimum, eight (8) years’ experience in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience in the nuclear industry is an asset.
• Experience in the technical procurement process, including supplier qualification reviews, bid evaluations, review and acceptance of technical deliverables and monitoring contractor performance vs. technical specifications.
• Experience in the maintenance of electrical systems or equipment.
• Experience in performing electrical power studies using software such as ETAP.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Ability to exercise sound judgment in technical matters, routinely solve technical problems, and make independent decisions.
• Demonstrated performance in providing engineering oversight to various jobs of various sizes.
• Excellent oral and written English communication skills; previous experience making technical presentations to small and large audiences.
• Demonstrated effective team leadership and team-building skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team and interact with staff at various levels of the organization.
• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in designing, constructing, and commissioning nuclear and non-nuclear facilities.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement in technical matters, routinely solve technical problems, and make independent decisions.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CSA N286/N285 quality standards.
• An excellent understanding of the regulatory and Quality Assurance requirements is required.
• Security Clearance Eligibility Required

• Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. • Preparing technical calculations and reports in support of design jobs.
• Working with technicians and technologists to provide accurate and reliable information on sketches and design drawings.
• Assisting other team members to ensure that deliverables are finalized on time, on budget and with the highest level of quality.
• Designing new structures, retrofits and modifications to existing structural engineering systems.
• Designing and analyzing custom-designed elements for construction support, such as below-the-hook lifting devices, fall arrest systems, shoring systems, etc.
• Performing load assessments on existing structures.
• Preparing design documentation, including concept reports, design requirements, design descriptions, design manuals, design guides, technical specifications, and technical notes.
• Providing engineering support during the construction, installation and commissioning project phases.

What we are looking for:

• Education

• A Bachelor’s (Honour) in Engineering or Science from a university of recognized standing; or membership in an engineering or scientific professional organization authorized by statute to establish qualification for membership in that organization, Member of a provincial professional engineering association, or
• Registered in PEO Engineer Internship Training Program, and Eligible for Membership in the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario (PEO).
• Experience

• 2 years of relevant experience is preferred.
• Engineering oversight experience for various jobs of various sizes is considered an asset.
• Experienced in performing electrical power studies using software such as ETAP.
• Experienced in the maintenance of electrical systems or equipment.
• Supervisory and project management experience would be an asset.
• Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated knowledge of engineering codes and standards used in industrial facility design, construction, and commissioning.
• Demonstrated knowledge of CSA N286/N285 quality standards is preferable.
