  • You demonstrate a “Safety-First” focus and act as a positive role model to your colleagues when you:
  • adhere to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, WSP’s clients, employees, and the public;
  • identify and report potential and existing site hazards, near loss incidents and loss incidents.
  • You will work with, and lead, a team of staff conducting a range of investigation and/or remediation works related to nuclear and conventional contaminants. This may include:
  • Supporting/managing the Port Hope Area Initiative with characterization, remedial verification or remedial design, and potentially acting as the qualified person for this work.
  • Supporting/managing subsurface and other investigations at CNL campuses (e.g., Chalk River, Whiteshell, Gentilly), the proposed deep geological repository site, operational nuclear facilities, facilities for decommissioning, and facilities planned for nuclear development.
  • Providing support to geotechnical, engineering design, permitting, decommissioning and construction services staff as they conduct works on nuclear facilities and require environmental input.
  • Managing other projects (or coordinating other disciplines) related to the nuclear industry such as research assignments, risk assessments, groundwater evaluations, permitting requirements or standards development.
  • Managing other environmental projects for non-nuclear clients. This may include contaminated lands work (e.g., Phase I ESAs, Phase II ESAs, remediation, excess soil management) or other environmental work in your area of expertise.
  • Liaising with clients to scope potential works, resolve issues and promote WSP’s services. Liaising with internal service providers to grow WSP’s services and ensure clients’ needs are met.
  • In keeping with our culture of technical excellence, we expect that you maintain excellent notes, and that you perform and record work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements. Strong communication skills (written and verbal) are essential!
  • The current job position is located in the Whitby or Port Hope office but can be from other locations and some portion of remote/home work is also available.

What you bring to WSP

  • Have a professional certification (P.Eng., P.Geo. or other).
  • Have 10 years or more of relevant working experience in the field of environmental projects. This may be related to site assessments (Phase I ESA, Phase II ESA, O. Reg. 153/04, O. Reg. 406/19) or may be in an alternative field (e.g., nuclear project management, waste management, permitting).
  • Have experience related to radiological contaminants and nuclear client requirements. In particular, CNL, OPG and/or Bruce Power related experience or training is valued.
  • Have excellent communication skills (verbal, written), strong attention to detail and a passion for health and safety. In particular experience communicating with clients is required.
  • Have a valid driver’s license, and access to a vehicle for light duty projects within the area (reimbursable)
