Job description: Become a team member for the largest Indigenous-led infrastructure project in Canada, which will connect 17 remote First Nation communities in Northern Ontario with clean, reliable, and accessible grid power! First Nation leadership owners of Wataynikaneyap established the Guiding Principles, endorsed by its partners, that set out expectations for the Company’s development, including respect for the land and First Nation way of life.Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of FortisOntario Inc., acts as the Project Manager of Wataynikaneyap Power LP (“Wataynikaneyap Power”). Wataynikaneyap Power is a licensed transmission entity, majority-owned by a partnership of 24 First Nation communities in partnership with Fortis Inc. and other private investors. The partnership is an unprecedented undertaking and has constructed 1,800 kilometres of 230 kV, 115 kV, and 44 kV transmission lines and over 22 substations in northwestern Ontario. Located near Thunder Bay in our Fort William First Nation, ON office, Wataynikaneyap Power is currently recruiting for a talented:COST/REPORTING ACCOUNTANTFull-Time Permanent PositionThis position will report to the Director, Finance, Wataynikaneyap Power PM Inc. The Cost/Reporting Accountant will be responsible for the general accounting functions related to Wataynikaneyap Power, verification of financial data to ensure accurate and timely information, preparing and entering journal entries, budget reports for department leads, support financing advances, capital assets, inter-company balances and more. The Cost/Reporting Accountant will also be required to prepare monthly financial reports for management, preparation of financial schedules for monthly financial reporting, preparation of documentation for audit binder support, and assistance in the filing of HST. The Director, Finance or designate may assign other projects and/or duties as the requirements of the department and company are considered. In order to be successful in this position, the candidate will require a combination of a solid financial background, excellent communication skills (both written and verbal), exceptional problem-solving ability, professional demeanor and the ability to develop relationships with all levels all the organization and its partners. The incumbent must ensure all work assigned is performed efficiently, while demonstrating a personal commitment to the safety of co-workers, the public, oneself and the environment.Please email for a full job description.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree or advanced degree in Business Administration – Accounting;
- One to Three (1-3) years experience in cost and financial accounting;
- Certified Professional Accountant designation is preferred; at a minimum, candidate must be working toward;
- Knowledge of Canadian GAAP/ASPE and US GAAP would be considered an asset;
- Ability to function in a continuously demanding environment with changing/conflicting priorities and able to commit to an increased work volume on a periodic basis;
- Advanced computer skills with MS Office Suite; SAP experience considered an asset;
- Demonstrated high level of attention to accuracy and proven attention to detail;
- Strong planning, analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work well independently and also collaboratively as part of a team;
- Candidates who speak/understand Anishinaabe or Anishininiimowin and/or have meaningful experience working with or for First Nation communities in Northwestern Ontario (preferred);
- Must have a valid Ontario “G” driver’s license and maintain a clean driver’s abstract;
- Travel to other FortisOntario locations may be required.
