  • Ensure project compliance with all internal and external safety standards and documentation, Utility Work Protection Code (UWPC), as well as compliance with legal aspects of Ontario Reg. 22/04, the HOL Construction Verification Program and Ministry of Labour (MOL) Notice of Projects.
  • Ensure current and ongoing knowledge of technical research, policies and procedures for new and emerging technologies, test equipment, engineering software applications and interface tools, and test methods for P&C, SCADA schemes and others as required.
  • Author and contribute to new and existing technical standards, specifications, standard work methods and maintenance schedules.
  • Perform energy consumption audits and power factor analysis for large commercial and industrial customers.
  • Develop and design information management systems for master drawing documents, maintenance and stations records control systems.
  • Ongoing maintenance and updating of SCADA, communications, and P&C.
  • Develop and provide internal and external training and oral presentations.
  • Review, analyze and maintain database and coordination reports.
  • Prepare, process, review and recommend P&C and SCADA technical detail to legal documentation associated with contracts or agreements for projects, i.e., connection agreements.
  • Collaborates with the Grid Technology group and as the accountable expert for the commissioning, configuration, documentation of the analog telemetry, telemetered status and remote control of HOL and Customer owned equipment by System Operations.
  • Effectively integrate and operate Primary and Secondary injection test equipment and the associated software operating platforms for acceptance testing and commissioning of critical systems.
  • Manage work plans and regularly perform on energized ‘live’ P&C schemes and high voltage switchgear and equipment.
  • Proficiency in power quality, system disturbances, magnetic, radio interference, equipment and power quality analysis.
  • Create and manage work plans and schedules for implementation of the Station Asset Maintenance program encompassing all stations equipment, switchgear, protective relaying and instrumentation.
  • Generate and Sign-Off the documentation necessary to record and log commissioning activities and test routines for equipment being placed into initial service or ongoing maintenance.
  • Investigate and analyze insurance claims related to power quality for Insurance and Risk Management.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Electrical Technologist diploma or,
  • Electrical Technician diploma with utility experience specifically related to Substation electrical equipment and /or Protection and Control.
  • OACETT certification as an Electrical Technician/Technologist or able to attain OACETTcertification within 2 years of hire date.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience with electrical distribution utility and/or industrial environments in roles related to electrical maintenance, asset management, and/or project management
  • An extensive combination of relevant education, training and experience may substitute for academic requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of advanced mathematics including calculus, analytical trigonometry (vector analysis) and logarithms in the study and application of electrical theory
  • Requires sound knowledge of the theories, principles and practices and operating characteristics of power and distribution equipment and systems
  • Thorough knowledge of specialized relay protections and P&C schemes are considered an asset

  • Leads and directs material ABC class analysis and cycle count process and participate in annual physical inventory.
  • Recommends process improvements and KPI’s in order to realize cost savings and enhance operational efficiencies.
  • Co-ordination and administration of the facilities management function (all building related maintenance and renovation activities).
  • Obtains, negotiates and maintains building and property maintenance contracts.
  • Monitor the effectiveness of and maintain the building systems.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Business Administration, Supply Chain or equivalent work experience.
  • American Production and Inventory Control Society (APICS) or Supply Chain Canada Association (SCMA) enrolment would be an asset.
  • Minimum 5 years working experience within supply management, procurement, inventory, contract administration and/or related functional areas.
  • Strong knowledge of specifications for utility equipment, materials, and services is an asset.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, MRP and/or ERP applications.

  • Provide information to customers on metering requirements and liaise with customers regarding service requirements.
  • Complete new and upgraded Customer Application and service layout including Energy Deposit and capital contribution dollars requirements.
  • Install, maintain, remove, replace, troubleshoot, and field download data from metering installations including specialized and complex applications, such as I.E.S.O. registered metering.
  • Perform complex meter installation verification and power quality testing and reporting to ensure metering accuracy.
  • Support MV90 and Billing with readings and transferal of files for interrogation and troubleshooting.
  • Perform in-shop meter programming, calibration, verification, statistical sampling, and troubleshooting.
  • Collect and disconnect commercial accounts; last attempt to collect account arrears by contact in field with customer, and disconnect meter if attempt is unsuccessful and reconnect accounts previously disconnected.
  • Coordinate supply of electricity and customer activities with Inspection Authority, Engineering, Metering and Customer Service Departments for new services and service upgrades.
  • Record meter inventory transactions and maintain levels of equipment.
  • Work with internal staff of all Alectra affiliates, outside contractors and customers to ensure accurate and timely metering service.
  • Prepare reports and assist in preparation of standards drawings, provide field information to resolve billing conflicts, etc.
  • Processing improvement, safety, and work procedure development, training and implementation and audits in a quality assurance system environment.
  • Support the apprentices in accordance with their logbook and departmental requirements, this does not include final sign off. Participate and engage in Apprenticeship programs including providing feedback and mentoring apprentices.
  • Responsible for a working knowledge and understanding of and make all efforts reasonable to work in accordance with and ensuring work is done in compliance with the appropriate safety legislation, EUSR rules, Alectra policies and procedures and safe work practices that apply to the work while adhering to the internal responsibility system. Reports any unsafe conditions or observed unsafe work practices using Alectra procedures.

Education & Specialized Knowledge:

  • Post-Secondary Diploma or Certificate in Electrical or Electronic Engineering Technology, or a Licensed Electrician in Ontario or recognized equivalent.

Experience
