Reporting to Chief Executive Officer; the SVP, Essentials for The Bay business will play a critical role in designing, developing and executing on a strategy for a new business model in providing everyday goods to customers, creating a frictionless end to end digital business. This role has complete oversight and ownership of this function and is accountable for the strategy, P&L, sales, product offerings, and customer experience of this new business offering. This exciting and critical growth role at The Bay will support the overall Bay customer strategy model to drive new customer acquisition, shopper frequency, retention and ultimate growth in life time value.
As a visionary leader keen to further enhance the brand’s world-class, customer centric orientation, the incoming leader will bring a track record around building strategy; communicating a compelling vision; and, implementing well-thought-out plans in partnership with high-performing teams.
The incumbent will possess a strong digital-focused mindset, a sense of urgency & resilience and brings an entrepreneurial work style. This executive knows how to get into the details, while still being able to operate at 30,000 feet.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Live our One Team strategy as a culture builder and transformative leader
Will be required to build a best in-class team to deliver on this model
Oversee total site P&L and drive profit improvement opportunities to achieve top and bottom-line results,
Leverage insights from ROI analysis based on results to drive sales, conversion, Average Order Value (AOV), Repeat visits and purchases
Operate through a lens of agile leadership to support changes in the market and take advantages of opportunities
Provide direction and partner with digital and marketing teams to enhance brand and product communications, and identify and anticipate developing customer trends
Lead and leverage customer and employee feedback to highlight opportunities and resolve problems at their root cause
Lead Buying and Planning of consumables and liaise with Planning on other Essential product areas to maintain appropriate sell through of products and planning for new product launches
Build and lead the CX product team and partner with engineering to ensure strategic journey solutions are defined and constantly developed to improve performance
Builds team capability with mentoring, coaching, and professional development.
Lead and coach teams cross-functionally by providing insight and consistent, transparent feedback
The digital-first transformation of The Bay takes us to the next level, with significant focus on technology investment and innovation – including the creation of Technology Hubs, increased fulfillment capabilities, expanded marketing and extended vendor partnerships for a highly-curated assortment.
Since the introduction of Marketplace in April 2021, The Bay has introduced more than 1,500 new or expanded brands and more than 25,000 new products through the new Marketplace Technology platform, and continues to grow and innovate on thebay.com – currently the 6th largest e-commerce business in Canada.

Success in building a new business from ground up with a proven record in delivering year over year sales and profitability growth in a highly competitive industry.
Excellent communication skills; and, the ability to lead in a fast-paced and dynamic digital environment.
Several years of experience in senior roles in buying and/or merchandising
Extensive consumables management experience, preferably as a multi-category manager overseeing both creative and financial aspects of merchandising
Leader of digital teams including leading in a marketplace environment
Strong knowledge of analytics and leveraging data to drive results
Bachelor’s degree, or appropriate business-related experience and training equivalent.
Strong skills in strategy and planning, budget, and P&L management, merchandising and marketing
Exceptional integrity, with the ability to stay true to one’s own cause and purpose while incorporating the opinions, needs, and feedback of others
The desire and ability to work collaboratively and virtually with staff members across teams
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Creative, approachable, along with strong interpersonal skills
