  • Install, repair and/or layout all types of fiber communication cabling with minimal supervision.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot and resolve network issues.
  • Prioritize work requests, meet service level targets and escalate issues as required
  • Respond to customer outages as required for 24 x 7 network reliability, acting as first line technical support
  • Work with network engineers to provision customer-side ONTs and switches.
  • Keep detailed network records and information systems up-to-date
  • Install network services, cable pathway systems (cable trays, racks & cabinets) fiber optic and wireless infrastructure in public, municipal, business or residential settings; setup and troubleshoot switches, routers, LANs, WANs, VOIP, CWDM/DWDM and Wi-Fi systems
  • Splice and terminate fiber optic cable; use common test equipment (OTDR, OLTS) and network analyzer software
  • Maintain customer premise equipment
  • Provide on-site and remote technical support
  • Oversee network provisioning and configuration in accordance with service orders and operational standards; interpret and verify service orders, specifications, drawings, schematics and special requirements
  • Other duties as assigned

What you have to offer

  • High school GED or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working as a fibre technician or splicer
  • Experience with troubleshooting, installing, Fusion Splicing, and OTDR testing of fiber cable.
  • Understanding of Fibre technologies, including GPON
  • Ability to troubleshoot issues with communication cabling and signals.
  • Ability to distinguish colours
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Visio, AutoCAD and GIS software
