The Recreation Therapy Student (RecT Student) is responsible for facilitation of the Mobile Recreation & Well-being program across multiple inpatient medical units at both Brampton Civic Hospital and Etobicoke General Hospital. The Recreation Therapy Student will screen patients for appropriate single-use recreation supplies, and they will facilitate 1:1 recreation activities with patients with a wide range of interests and abilities.This position differs from a Recreation Therapist position, as the Student will not be completing the full TR APIED process with patients, and does not fulfil the hiring criteria of a Recreation Therapist at Osler (Degree in TR in addition to either R/TRO or CTRS certification). The Student is not able to prescribe interventions/activities for patients. The Student will engage patients in their chosen activities of interest and distribute supplies that patients request for independent activities.Accountabilities:
- Collaborate with health care team to identify patients that would most benefit from recreation interventions and obtain any pertinent information regarding patient safety. Utilize Meditech to obtain orders and/or identify patients who are CAM +.
- Responsible for the implementation of a wide range of 1:1 recreation interventions, with specific knowledge of delirium management strategies and culturally appropriate recreation interventions.
- Provide single-use leisure resources, assess for appropriateness of each item for the patient based on consultation with the primary nurse and brief patient screening
- Report any patient concerns directly to patient’s primary nurse.
- Source and develop supplies within established program budget
- Ability to quickly adapt recreation interventions to suits each patient’s specific interests, and their individual physical, cognitive, and/or communicative level of functioning.
- Compliant with sanitizing items and cart as per IPAC standards
- Maintain statistics in accordance with the requirements of the Mobile Recreation & Well-being program
- Ensure the working environment is hazard free and all equipment is safe.
- Multi-site travel may be required

- Perform duties as assigned by the Recreation Therapists

QualificationsCurrent college or university student:
- Therapeutic Recreation Certificate (1yr) Candidate i.e. Georgian College, Mohawk College
- Completed Diploma (2 yr) in Therapeutic Recreation program
- Current 4th year Therapeutic Recreation Degree Candidate (i.e. University of Waterloo, Brock University, Seneca College, Dalhousie University, etc.)
Student, Associate, or Professional member in good standing of one of the following (Preferred):
- (TRO) Therapeutic Recreation Ontario
- (CTRA) Canadian Therapeutic Recreation Association
Core Competencies:

Leveraging deep subject matter expertise, the Senior Specialist ensures that research agreements are aligned with institutional, legal, ethical and funding agency requirements while proactively identifying and mitigating risk.This position is critical in supporting ORIHI’s expanding research enterprise and ensuring the timely and effective management of complex contracts related to investigator-initiated and sponsored research, including but not limited to: clinical trial agreements, data transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, collaboration agreements, grant agreements, service agreements and material transfer agreements. In addition, the Senior Specialist plays a key role in advancing ORIHI’s strategic plan by contributing to the development of foundational research policies, supporting the design and implementation of a commercialization strategy and facilitating the establishment and growth of research centres aligned with ORIHI’s vision for innovation and impact.The Senior Research Contracts Specialist acts as a trusted advisor to researchers, leadership and administrative teams, and serves as a key liaison between internal and external stakeholders. The role also contributes to the development of institutional policies, standard operating procedures (SOPs), contract templates and process improvement tools to streamline research operations and ensure compliance.Accountabilities:
- Independently draft, review, negotiate and manage a broad range of research-related agreements, including clinical trial agreements, data transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, collaboration agreements, grant agreements, service agreements and material transfer agreements
- Negotiate contractual terms and conditions, including financial arrangements, indemnities, intellectual property rights, publication clauses and data ownership
- Identify legal, financial and operational risks within contracts and recommend mitigation strategies that protect the institution while facilitating research progress
- Provide ongoing administrative oversight of agreements, including status updates, amendments, renewals and compliance follow-up
- Ensure all agreements comply with Osler’s institutional policies, ethical standards, applicable legislation and funding agency requirements
- Serve as the first point of contact for research contract-related inquiries and provide expert guidance to internal teams, researchers and stakeholders
- Liaise with key groups, such as the Research Ethics Board, research financial services, research managers, principal investigators and senior management, on contract terms and decision-making
- Liaise with research managers on contract budgets and support budget negotiations as needed
- Execute agreements and ensure proper document storage and retention
- Acquires and maintains up-to-date knowledge of hospital’s policies and procedures applicable to industry sponsored clinical research and other academic and professional standards for the conduct and administration of industry-sponsored clinical research
- Support the implementation of ORIHI’s strategic plan by contributing to the development of core research policies, commercialization strategies and research centre frameworks
- Develop and refine SOPs, contract templates, decision-making tools and guidance documents to enhance research contract management
- Track contract workflows using appropriate systems; maintain accurate records and ensure timely reporting to internal stakeholders
- Maintains databases in support of the contract team
- Transfers data onto online reporting system and/or spreadsheets
- Compiles and distributes periodic reports and other information, as needed
Qualifications
- At minimum, a law degree or paralegal background with related experience or a Master’s degree or recognized equivalent
- Minimum five years practical and related experience with at least three to five years of experience drafting, interpreting and negotiating agreements including clinical trial agreements, data transfer agreements, confidentiality agreements, etc. is preferred
- Familiarity with legislation governing human research and knowledge of Canadian, USA and international guidelines as they apply to clinical trial management (e.g. FDA and Health Canada regulations, good clinical practices, Tri-Council Policy Statement, Personal Health Information Protection Act, etc.)
- Demonstrated ability to set priorities among competing and shifting demands with frequent interruptions
- Must be highly organized and able to work independently to meet tight deadlines without sacrificing accuracy, customer service, collegiality or ethics
- Experience drafting and negotiating research contracts
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Able to support closure on a tight schedule and provide timely analysis of results
- Excellent oral, interpersonal and written communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to learn new skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Excellent knowledge of full suite of Microsoft office programs (including Excel, Word, Outlook)
