  • Conduct wheat and flour testing and analysis, ensuring raw material and finished goods quality and food safety are within the predetermined product specifications.
  • Complete and issue customers’ documents such as Certificate of Analysis, Product Specifications and other inquiries.
  • Assist in the maintenance of Quality program and manual which includes but not limited to periodic review and inspections, updating documents, filing and organizing, corrective and preventive action reporting.
  • Maintain documents and records in accordance with P&H policies and procedures.
  • Report and communicate with Department Supervisors/Managers on matters regarding the results of quality testing and analysis.
  • Participate in Food Safety programs, including maintenance of the Supplier Approval program.
  • Participate and assist with traceability, mock recalls exercise, audits, customer complaints and inquiries.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in a Food Science, chemistry, or related field program.
  • Good knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) principles.
  • Familiarity with basic laboratory instruments as well as physical and chemical testing and analysis.
  • Proficient in computer applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.

The P&H Milling Group sources wheat from Western Canada, Ontario, and Atlantic Canada to produce quality flour and cereal products. In our specialty milling operation in Saskatoon, we also mill pea fractions.From its mills in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Acton, Hanover, Hamilton and Cambridge, Ontario; Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; and Lethbridge, Alberta, the P&H Milling Group supplies flour to customers throughout Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Iceland, and Pacific Rim countries.Internship Overview As a Health & Safety Intern at P&H Milling, you’ll get hands-on experience in implementing and maintaining health and safety protocols within our flour milling operations. The intern will work closely with our Health and Safety team to ensure a safe working environment for all employees.Location: Head Office-1060 Fountain Street N, CambridgeTerm: May 5, 2025 – August 29, 2025Compensation (This Internship Is a Paid Position): $22/hourYour Day to Day

  • Learn to identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Assist in developing and updating health and safety policies, procedures, and training materials.
  • Participate in safety training sessions and promote a culture of safety awareness among employees.
  • Assist in investigating accidents or incidents, documenting findings, and recommending preventive measures.
  • Assist in conducting health and safety inspections and audits throughout the flour mill.
  • Collect and analyze safety data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the safety team on various projects and initiatives.
  • Some travel within Ontario may be required. *The company will provide compensation for mileage.

What You’ll Learn

  • Gain insights to relevant health and safety regulations and standards applicable to flour milling operations. This includes regulations from local authorities, as well as industry-specific guidelines.
  • Learn how policies are communicated to employees and integrated into daily operations to promote a safe working environment.
  • Develop communication skills by interacting with employees, supervisors, and management to address safety concerns, provide updates on safety initiatives, and facilitate discussions on safety improvements.
  • Receive mentorship from industry experts and professionals in the field.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Occupational Health and Safety or a related field.
  • Possess a valid Canadian’s Drivers license that allows you to drive unaccompanied.
  • Strong interest in health and safety practices within an industrial setting, preferably in food processing or manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of basic health and safety regulations and standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Full-time availability for a 4-month term, May – Aug 2025
