  • Develop and implement System Assurance strategies covering Safety Assurance, Security, Cybersecurity, and RAM.
  • Lead system assurance teams to ensure all railway systems and components comply with relevant governance, regulations, and standards.
  • Monitor and evaluate compliance with established standards.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to integrate system assurance requirements and policies into project designs and operations.
  • Oversee the implementation of safety and security requirements.
  • Ensure clear documentation and reporting of system assurance activities, including safety, security, and reliability targets throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Provide expert guidance on best practices in railway safety and security.
  • Stay updated on technological advancements and regulatory changes affecting system assurance.
  • Support the delivery assurance lead in strategic decision-making through risk management and assurance reporting.
  • Organize and attend periodic Safety Reviews.
  • Liaise with Independent Safety Assessors and Safety Advisors, managing the closure of assigned observations.
  • Lead and review System Safety Assurance analyses and management plans per CENELEC standards (EN50126, EN50128, EN50129, EN50159).
  • Lead and/or produce documentation, including the System Safety Program Plan and Safety & RAMS requirements.
  • Lead decomposition and allocation of RAMS requirements downstream of the V-cycle phases.
  • Produce RAMS Validation and Verification plans and reports.
  • Represent RAMS engineering in the project core team.
  • Establish RAM demonstration plans and FRACAS procedures with project management and field teams.
  • Lead Human Factor assessments and Human Reliability Analysis.
  • Develop and review system HW/SW analyses (PHA, SHA, SSHA, IHA, O&SHA) using safety techniques such as FMECAs, FTA, ETA, RBD, and CCF.
  • Develop the System Safety Case.
  • Apply CENELEC guidelines for RAMS quantitative target decomposition and allocation.
  • Establish processes and procedures for Hazard Log Management tools.
  • Mentor and lead system assurance engineers in executing System Assurance Programs for clients.

QualificationsMinimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in a relevant engineering discipline (electrical, electronics, mechanical, etc)
  • 6+ years experience in in system assurance within the railway industry, with specific expertise in safety, security, cybersecurity, and RAM
  • PEng
  • This position requires the ability to travel between worksites/locations. A valid driver’s license and a clean driving record may be required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree preferred, ideally in Safety Management.
  • 10+ years of experience in system assurance, cybersecurity, and safety assurance within rail, transportation, or critical infrastructure projects.
  • Expertise in implementing EN 50126, NIST SP 800-30, and similar standards.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing and mentoring teams.
  • Proven track record in applying effective assurance methodologies and analytical skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging with internal and external stakeholders, including clients and vendors.
  • Proficient in safety and security analysis methods, regulatory compliance, and risk assessment techniques such as Threat and Vulnerability Risk Assessments (TVRA) and cybersecurity risk analysis.
  • Deep understanding of railway safety and security standards, including EN 50126 (RAMS), EN 50128 (Software), EN 50129 (Safety Assurance), IEC 62443 (Industrial Cybersecurity), and the NIST Cybersecurity Framework.
  • Knowledge of railway operations, signaling systems (CBTC, ETCS, PTC), and SCADA cybersecurity.
  • Familiarity with Transport Canada, APTA, or other railway cybersecurity and safety assurance regulations.
  • Strong grasp of complex system architectures, functional design, schematics, and drawings.
  • Soft skills: adaptable, proactive, team-oriented, problem-solving mindset, structured, and effective communicator.

In this field-based position, we provide full training for motivated individuals with a background in mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, or heavy equipment operation. What You’ll Do:

  • Operate and maintain Loram’s specialized rail maintenance equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Perform hands-on mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic maintenance, including inspections, troubleshooting, and repairs.
  • Collaborate with teammates to ensure optimal equipment performance and adherence to safety standards.
  • Communicate effectively with the team via radio, in-person, and written methods.
  • Follow Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), OSHA, and Loram safety protocols at all times.
  • Participate in training to continuously improve your skills and support your career growth.

Required Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Must be able and eligible to enter the United States for training; posses and maintain a valid passport
  • No prior rail experience required—we’ll train you!
  • Strong teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Positive attitude, work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow
  • Commitment to safety and industry standards
  • Proficient in English, verbal and written communication

What to Expect:

  • Must be able to travel 100% of the time, including international, using any method of transportation.
  • Rotational field assignments (6–8 weeks at a time) with long workdays (12+ hours)
  • Physically demanding work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Extensive walking, climbing, lifting (75+ lbs), and working in confined spaces or at heights
  • Exposure to unique challenges and opportunities to develop practical, in-demand skills

  • Comfortable working in challenging outdoor environments
  • Ability to walk 5–9 miles per day on uneven terrain

  • Must meet vision and hearing requirements for day and night operations
