Job Description:
The Assistant Project Manager (APM) is responsible for supporting the Supply Chain Management (SCM) Operations in executing assigned projects. The role involves assisting in managing Seaspan Shipyards and external resources to achieve project success criteria, ensuring adherence to cost, schedule, and quality requirements.
Key Responsibilities:

Provide project management support in coordinating and executing assigned activities and deliverables.

Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary shipyard teams, including estimating, commercial, planning, project controls, engineering, supply chain, and operations, to ensure project success.

Develop or assist in generating plans, schedules, dashboards, reports, and presentations that highlight project status against established goals and plans.

Monitor and help collate project controls and key performance metrics to measure project performance.

Validate issues raised by different stakeholders (internal and external) on-site and work towards delivering solutions.

Track actions and commitments identified during project meetings.

Establish ambitious but achievable timelines and work closely with action owners to complete open commitments.

Champion and foster a culture of project success over individual success.

Follow up on industrial subcontractors’ production progress and lookaheads on-site.
Qualifications:
-
A bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Business is desired. Diplomas may be accepted with sufficient employment experience.

Certified project management qualification (e.g., PMP) is a distinct advantage.
-
5-7 years of professional experience in heavy industry such as shipbuilding, manufacturing, or construction, with demonstrated increased levels of responsibility.

Demonstrated experience and contribution in a fast-paced, diverse environment with rapid change and competing priorities.

Good judgment and prioritization abilities.

Effective, efficient interpersonal skills.

Strong problem-solving skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills, able to empower and empathize with team members.

Ability to influence others and manage expectations.

Familiarity with government contracting and performance management of major subcontractors.

Experience with Earned Value Management.

Willingness to work in an office setting, as well as within the shipyard.

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).

Knowledge of Navis Simulation and Power BI would be considered an asset.
