POSITION SUMMARY:

The purpose of this position is to strategically develop and build creative concepts across multiple channels for Diamond’s diverse roster of clients. As an Art Director your skills are focused on delivering conceptual work driven by visuals, design and flawless execution. Directly reports to the Creative Director.

RESPONSIBILITIES (not in order of priority):

  • Responsible for coming up with concepts, designs, and innovative visual ideas for agency clients that deliver on marketing/creative objectives and strategies within reasonable cost.
  • Advocating integration between mediums.
  • Once a project has briefed, the AD will be the creative lead (usually with a writing creative partner).
  • Develop strategically relevant creative solutions based on the information gathered from all documents including the creative brief, team members, and senior lead team.
  • Collaborate fully with all members of the Creative, Account and Production teams throughout the entire project
  • Present concepts to the Creative Director and/or integrated team for approval of the creative work, to ensure all creative meets the client’s needs, brand standards and best practices
  • Execute and present layouts for Integrated, Digital, Social or Experiential marketing concepts that have strong conceptual design
  • Maintain quality and budget controls throughout all aspects of a concept’s execution including file prep processes in conjunction with Production and Studio
  • Responsible for securing approval for all work from Creative Director
  • Present work and sell ideas effectively
  • Discuss the work both internally and with clients
  • Listen to and understand client feedback and internal critiques
  • Apprise the Creative Director of progress as warranted
  • Monitors the progress of assigned projects through each phase of development (i.e. layout, production, media, and research)
  • Regularly attends status meetings, production handoff meetings, and presentations where appropriate
  • Contributes to the selection of suppliers (director, makers, photographers and/or illustrators) in the final execution and visualization of the creative concept
  • Oversees typography, colour, composition, information hierarchy and shows an understanding of how to collaborate in developing on-brand and on-target solutions
  • Mentors and supervises the activities of junior creatives
  • Acts as a thought leader and strategic thinker who can understand and engage with a wide variety of other team members and disciplines.
  • Assists Creative Director on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ensures all work is of the highest possible quality and maintains agency’s commitment to changing customer behaviour through disruptive ideas at all points of contact
  • Produces the final assets necessary for sending over to studio/production. This includes preparing any mock-ups, decks or print out
  • When possible, will contribute to the new business initiatives by working on pitches
  • Supports/attends all the mandatory staff meetings and adheres to agency processes and procedures
  • Maintains professional-level design software proficiency (Adobe Suite; Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Constantly improves skills and stays current of developments and trends in the industry, as well as sharing your knowledge with others (i.e. industry hacking, inspiration, vendor capabilities presentations, award winning work, etc.)

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The Art Director will have 5+ years relevant experience
  • Skills with Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Illustrator, Keynote Expert, Microsoft Office
  • Experience with the entire Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong organizational skills, must be able to independently manage time and set priorities
  • Bachelor’s Degree or a diploma in Graphic Design
  • Must be detail-oriented, accurate and efficient
  • Display strategic thinking and analytical skills
  • Must be reliable and willing to put in extra time as required to meet project deadlines
  • Positive working relationships built throughout the organization with a professional attitude, willing to complete all aspects of work as required
  • Startup (all-hands-on-deck) ‘I bust my butt because I love it’ approach

Requirements:

  • Excellent and persuasive copywriting abilities
  • Superior oral and written communications skills, experience with proofreading and copyediting
  • Ability to prioritize and work on multiple tasks across multiple projects with cross-functional teams
  • Experience using MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), MS Project, Agile Software and MS Visio or similar product for process flow
  • Organized and disciplined with a track record of completing tasks on-time and to a high standard
  • An individual who cares deeply about creating a unique brand experience
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Fluent in English and French
  • Adobe Photoshop & Creative Suite skills are preferred – handling your own edits may happen on the fly
  • Creativity isn’t limited to degrees but an educational background in media or a relevant field is an asset

Key accountabilities

  • Develop and execute advertising concepts for digital and social channels that address the objectives as outlined in creative briefs.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge and Experience:

  • 2-5 years ad agency experience working on both B2C and B2B preferably for an FI.
  • Ability to translate a creative brief into a concept that solves the client’s advertising needs.
  • 2-5 years experience and high level of competence developing creative concepts and ideas for digital and social advertising campaigns.
  • Experience and high level of competence in designing marketing collateral that delivers an exceptional client experience.
  • Able to solve problems and make decisions with minimal guidance.
  • Enjoys working as a team but can work independently as well, to create exceptional work.
  • Understands how to work within a brand’s voice, look and feel.
  • “Big picture thinker” — understands that copy and imagery are equally important and should tell a story.
  • Experience creating accessible documents.
  • Strong working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite: Photoshop/Illustrator/Indesign/AfterEffects/Animate)
  • Highly organized and able to work under tight deadlines
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
